How are Matriarch sales???

Hi Sal:
Just wondered how sales for the Matriarch have been since you generously made it available for us forumites. (are there any left to your knowledge, or did they sell-out?)

As a side note, have the international shipments been encouraging?


 
Is there any way that we can order the Black ones? I have grey Matriarchs, but I wouldn't mind getting a black one.

I'm bringing this back to the top because I'm curious too. I was just about to ask for a Matriarch for my birthday but I think I would rather have a grey one. Are both colors available or what! Thanks.
 
Unfortunately, the guys at RAMROD are not available at present - I wanted to check up on Matriarch stocks (confirm)...

As far as I know ALL 150 that came to South Africa have been sold at present!...

I don't know the status of the black version. I thought they were all going overseas. I'll check with Sales Dept.

Sales of the Matriarch to the Forumites was actually much slower than expected. Not really a problem as I beleive Michelle was going to make them available to LEOs.

Hmmm.....Do you think it would be possible for some of us forumites to purchase an extra couple Matriarchs? I'd really love to make gifts of a couple to family-members.

Does SFO have a web page? If not, how do I contact SFO to order a Matriarch? How many Matriarchs may I order as a BF.Com Member?

I was able to buy two, one for my wife, and one for my daughter. I bought them for my peace of mind; I thought these knives would be perfect for them to carry, being that the design was a defensive carry for inexperienced knife people. Now I don't have one, and they could care less. Oh well. I could take one back, but I wouldn't feel right about that either.

Can someone enlighten me on this? I believe I may have joined the Forums after the previous discussion.
I checked spyderco web site and could not find any info.on an outlet.I checked the bladeforum store and there is no mention of a matriarch.How do I purchase one,or are they now unavailable?

The outlet portion of the Spyderco Web site has not been fully developed. If you go to the site & look at products, you'll see "add to basket" icons. Those are linked to the Spyderco Factory Outlet. I don't have the phone number, but a search of this forum using the term "SFO" should turn it up.

As to the Matriarch, it is a Civilian-like blade in a Endura 98 handle that was originally intended for export markets only. A search using "Matriarch" will turn up more detailed descriptions as well as pictures. Sal graciously agreed to a special run for forumites. They can be ordered from SFO. As to availability, you'd have to ask them.

Spyderco is making it for export to South Africa and Israel, which are jurisdictions that are socially and legally more friendly to personal defensive weapons than much of the USA is.

The name is a reference to the alpha female elephant, who is very protective toward her herd.

According to a news item I just saw on CNN, South Africa had been having an epidimic of rape in recent years, so that they've even resorted to running public service television ads saying that Real Men don't do that. A Matriarch can say, with authority, "Unhand me, varlet!" or "What part of 'No!' don't you understand?"

HDCharlie - If I may; my not responding within a 24 hr period does not constitute "Absenteeism", perhaps a touch of "impatience".

I'm often gone for a week at a time. I have a family, a job and I travel a great deal.

Welcome and thank you for your kind understanding.

It is my understanding that both black and gray Matriarchs are being made available to Law enforcement only and the orders are monitored. The gray version that was offered to the foumites is being offered to LEOs because the forumites actually purchaesd far fewer pieces than was originaly discussed. The gray version will not be produced again.

Please understand that Spyderco is not interested at this time in selling these openly in the USA. That is why we made the Gray version available to Forumites. The limited number is because we don't want to see them purchased for resale. It was a favor to forum collectors. Not thought of as an opportunity to pick up a few extra bucks.

Your understanding would be appreciated, whether or not you agree.

If the future determines that we can make this a regular item, without negative repercussions, then so be it. It was my decision to do it this way. I still feel it is the intellingent direction for Spyderco to follow.
