How are the Emerson framelock knives?

I de-waved my 12 because I found it just got in the way.

I know others that have done this as well. I de-Waved my CQC14 too and like it a lot better without it and as a frame lock. G10 is plenty rigid and has ample strength to work for the application on the non lock side. Doing it this way also reduces the weight on a knife that large so if both sides were slab titanium it would certainly feel heavier and I'm sure you'd miss that textured thumb purchase to get the folder out of your pocket and Wave it open, particularly in cold weather or when you have sweaty slippery hands.

I only like the Emerson frame locks. I've had bad experiences with their thin liner locks. The HD-7 has a great feel and is extremely solid. It makes a good EDC. The only thing I don't like about the HD-7 is the horrible V grind. The CQC-12 is by far my favorite.

The CQC-12 is a great handful with some good heft and it's one of the most solid frame locks I've handled. I had mine reground by some monkey in Arkansas and he put a great hollow grind and swedge on it. It's a great knife without mods though.

They should stick to only making frame locks. People would still buy them, I know I would.

The ZT is a strongly built framelock that is probably less expensive. Of course it doesn't have a wave

Not yet :p

I might buy one and that will change.

You'll probably be impressed with both. I know the 12 is more utility oriented than the 7 with its tanto point, but I got a Benchmade Emerson 975 just before Ernie opened up his own factory, and it has its utility uses.

Crap, now I have to sell some stuff to buy a CQC 12. See what you *&%^& people made me do!:D

Truthfully, I'll probably keep the HD7 in the closet somewhere. I'm afraid what would happen when it needs to be sharpened. I'll use the heck out of the Comrade though. In russia comrade uses you.

I have been saving an HD7 for a couple of years. I might have to let it go now that I have the Strider bug. I have the 12 too. I have owned other HD7's all others have been the pse kind, none pe sf like the one I have been saving. These are great knives and if I wasn't so smitten with the Strider thing I probably wouldn't look any further for carry knives save for the EKI's I currently own. By far my favorite is the 7 series. I have 3 currently, a 7a, 7b from 99 with a hard chrome finish and the HD7 I have been saving.

EKI's frame locks are much smoother out of the box too. Don't know why that is but they most definetly are. I hate the wave thing though. Drives me nuts when it waves partially open when I am not trying to wave it open. I have ruined many a shirt tail doing this. I don't know where you will find an HD though. When the dealers get them they only get a few at a time it seems. And them most are pse like I said and usually coated blades. But as I have said many times before here my favorite EKI of all time is the 7a pe. Thats it, keepem sharp

Both the HD-7 and the CQC-12 are well built knives and very smooth once broken in. The 12 is large, but pretty flat so it won't feel too bulky in the pocket if you have looser pants. I often carry the HD-7; it's a little more comfortable in my smaller than average hands.

Mongomondo: Ok, I gotta ask.. who's that in your avatar? She's pretty hot :).

Funny, i'm going in the opposite direction. I'm impressed with my SnG, but I could never carry and use a $400 knife. I ordered the HD7 for $220 and that's more reasonable for me. I've never owned a wave knife before, hope I can get used to it.

Am I allowed to say where I bought it? I thought there was some rule against that so I just used an acronym.

auction spotting is a no-no, but i dont think there is a problem telling us where you got your knives.

Mongo---The Wave is fantastic feature. Use it only when you Have to. It will be easier on your pockets and the knife.

of the '12 and the ZT's i prefer the '12 its thinner and carries in the pocket a lot better.

lotsa frame locks dont have liners on the G10 side, strider for one, and none have any problems i am aware of, i have never had any problems with emerson (or anyone else) due to no liner on the G10 side.

i wonder were cornerstore is getting the '12's and HD7 from, i know emerson hasnt had any '12s for a while now, nor HD7's, i wanted an HD7 back in october for my b-day and they didnt have any then and no plans to make any more either.

A combo edge satin CQC-12 is all I could find (old stock?.) I am sure I would like it however the ZT0302 would probably be my favorite since I like heavy and I doubt any Emerson would feel as good in my hands. The ZT0302 is special it is top quality with custom like features (very unique Onion with a touch of strider and kershaw) at a low price point.

Looking at the CQC-12 I two words describe it is Simplicity and practicality.

The so called satin finish is subdued something close to other bead blasted finishes but not as gray not shiny at all. The wave is very reliable and I love it. I have no idea why anyone would want to remove it. Fit is excellent and so is finish for what it is.

It fits well in my hands and offers a secure grip. The design of this one whether you use right or left hand leaves the fingers over the frame lock pressing in the locking direction. This is very good. For something as flat it feels quite good to grip which is a pleasant surprise. It is lightweight and opens smoothly.

The finish throughout is dull and subdued I do not find it to be the flashiest or prettiest knife around and I am not scared to carry it with other items that may scratch it since it doesn't make much difference in it's appearance to me anyway (it may actually make looking at it more interesting.)

This is one of the most useful, carry friendly knives I have seen and felt. All business would be another way to describe it.

Like every other factory made frame lock I handled, with the exception of the AG Russell folding sting type knives, I would like a stiffer lock with less removed at the flex point of the lock (the ZT0300s are no exception to this lack of stiffness either).

However if they made them stiffer (note it cost more to grind out more lock bar to make a less rigid lock) they would probably lose the business of our weaker butter fingered counterparts who want way too easy unlocking and one hand closing. Come on exercise those fingers put a little more muscle on them, no offense to people with arthritis who have an excuse.

I am very impressed with this not too pretty knife after handling it kind of grows on you.
