How bent is too bent? ;)

Hi all,

Long-time lurker on these forum. Have been looking for a reasonably priced "all-around" fixed blade. Based on many things read here and elsewhere, decided to buy a Schrade SCHF52M as my first "big" knife when it came out.

I bought one on Amazon that arrived last week, and it's everything I was expecting, but the blade is a little bent. I have read that this sometimes happens with Schrade, so it appears I was unlucky.

But it's not bent much, and I don't know if I'm being too picky if I send it back (especially since it's not a pricey knife), or if anything less than a razor straight spine should be rejected as a matter of course. I don't know that I'd ever notice while actually using it that it wasn't straight. Not being a heavy duty knife user, I'd appreciate some feedback!

Here are some photos I took that hopefully show the extent of the bending issue. Note that the blade is 7 inches long.

Send it back.

IIRC, bends like that usually occur during heat treat. Something like improper quench or tempering?

Schrade should have never sent that out, send that sucker back and buy a Becker instead.

Straight as the letter c.

It looks like is an s shape lol Maybe it's new marketing

"s shaped blades" s for Schrade

The Navy Seals order those to stab around corners...
It is absolutely ridiculous.

Send it back for sure. Cheap is not an excuse for poor quality

Right. One quality an inexpensive knife has got to have is acceptable craftsmanship or it is not high value. If not quality for little money, you just spent a small amount of money on a POS. Send that thing back.

It's a very common problem for those knives. Something about the way they heat treat the knives causes it.

I asked an auction site seller a while back to check her stock and see if she had one that was straight. 0 for 17. She was amazed, had no idea they had that problem. Did she pull them or update the descriptions though? Lol.

Product research is your friend.

I'm not real picky about stuff that doesn't affect function, but a laterally bend blade that's meant to be straight, absolutely will - send it back.

Hi all.

Thank you so much for all the replies. It is going back, although I kind of liked the idea of using it around corners ;)
