1095 steel if that helps.

Did a little 1000 grit on it and the blue is starting to wear off. I don't want the rust on their. Is there a better way to remove the rust without the blue?
Thanks for your suggestions!

0000 Steel wool and the oil of your liking usually works great. It will remove the surface rust and not the blueing.

Id recommend looking into a product called boeshield t9 its a product made for bike chains you can find it in most bike shops for less than online.

You put a small coat of it and let it sit on the blade over night and it turns into a waxy coat which wont come off with rinsing or soft rubbing.

It doesn't attract dust or lint and its lasted for a few weeks already with only one coat.

Its relativley cheap and beats the heck out of wiping the blade every night with steel wool to remove the light surface rust and then putting oil on it which doesn't even last a whole day in a damp pocket.

+1 for Boeshield T9. That and Rem-oil are my top choices for blade maintenance.
