How big a folder is too big for you?

@Dadpool
I still love my 0200(kw); though I did grind it smooth. My also-loved copper scaled 0550 weighs about the same. I had an 0300; but was never fond of it...probably a combination of the assist, and the fact that it felt so big in my pocket. I know a lot of people like it though...maybe if it didn't have a black blade (I was pretty much over that, by then).

My EDC is a CS Recon1 with a 4 inch blade in spear point standard size. For a EDC that's pretty much my max (for now). Part of that is likely because I've EDCed a Recon1 for several years. But when I get the pleasure of going to Baltimore I used to carry a a XL Recon1 in clip point. That was until I picked up a TI-LITE 6.

I carrried nothing but mid sized 3” tp 3.5” blades under 4oz for years the pinnacle of such designs a 940-1. Just the sort of knife that you can forget you even have with you.

For some reason the last year I started carrying a lot of folders with bigger/wider blades 3.5” to 4.25” and weights up to 6.5oz. I’m not sure what changed but I’m really liking the bigger blades now.

Anything with a sharpened edge more than 3.99" :(

I don't want to become a felon. So I am happy with a Military.

8.6 inches overall is probably my max. The crooked river was awesome, but definitely felt too big for me and just generally unnecessary.

I just went from a Spyderco Native 5 to my new ZT 0393, I don't think I will go bigger than that. I don't have particularly big hands, so anything with a bigger handle compared to the ZT 0393 will be too big for me. As for blade length, I don't think I will accept anything over 4 inches...

I carry Spyderco K2 everyday at work OAL 9.99 Blade 4.54 at 6.2 oz.
Casual carry is a Spyderco Nirvana OAL 8.72 Blade 3.76 at 4.8oz.

Next folder will be a Spyderco Tatanka OAL 11.55 Blade 5.05 at 9.2 oz.

I've handles some of the extremely large Cold Steel knives but don't care for them. I find the Spydercos tend to carry very small for their size.

I have tried many blade lengths up to 5.5”.
My GB2 is the perfect fit for my big hands, and the maximum size that I care to carry. 3.6” blade with 4.82 handle is as big as I want.
I’ve yet to find a folder with a 4+” blade that I like the handle.

I think it really depends on your specific usage. Generally speaking, for my uses, 3-3.25" has been fine. I often carry knives in the 3.5-4" range solely because many knives in that range have thicker handles and allow a full hand grip.

My ideal is 3.25" to 3.75" blade with appropriate proportional handle. Smallest I usually go is the Delica 4 FFG (2.9"ish) and 4" is the max.

My Rat 1 in D2 is a great sized blade for me.

I do wear a 2xl glove, so my paws are bigger then average.

For modern folders, I prefer ones with a 3.0-3.25" blade. I won't go above 3.5" regardless as the knife feels like a sword in my hand at that point. On traditional knives, I'm most comfortable with about a 3" blade for using every day like a large 111mm SAK. I have a couple with 3.5"+ blades, but they never get used.

Do like larger knives in the 3.5-3.75 range. Largest folder I own is a 561 and it carries well and comfortable. Probably anything with a 4" blade is too much to me but that's not stopping me from getting a skinny XM-24 sometime or another
