as the title states, how large a knife can you make with it? will the new burner let you make larger ones? I mainly work with 1084 but would also like to work with 5160 and 01.

With skill, one can make almost any size blade with a very minimal heat supply.

The real answer to your question is:
It has an 11" chamber. The first and last inch are probably not the best part for working, so it should heat about 9" of steel . Moving the blade in and out will even up the heating. For practical purposes, a small forge like the Atlas is good for blades with up to 6" edge length. HT gets trickier above that.

Howard Clark uses one for finish work on his L6 Katanas. The real limit is on the width of the blade. The chamber is 2.5" wide, and the pass-through in the back is 1/2" × 2". Really huge bowies and meat cleavers are out, same with bigger axe heads, but most everything else can be done.
