I've been Eye-Ballin a Case Texas Jack in Amber bone and CV for about a month now but can't find any pics of one next to another knife to get a rough estimate on the size.
Are we talkin peanut? Regular Soddie? Soddie Jr? Medium Stockman?
Pics that compare it to another knife would be supremely helpful.
Thanks in advance for any help. -Andrew

3.5" ... let me go measure mine for you

Yep, 3.5" closed. It's the same frame as the 3.5" "32" pattern stockman.

The "92" pattern Texas Jack is 4" closed.

Does this help?

L to R
Swayback Jack, Mini Trapper, Texas Jack, Soddie Jr.

cellphone pic, not the best quality.

Good "perspective" shot, Stu.

Perfect :D
Thank you sir, you have successfully sold me on the Texas Jack.
That's exactly the size i needed to finish out my EDC.
FRP: Large Amber bone trapper in CV
FLP: Large Yellow handled soddie in CV
And now I'll add the texas jack in amber bone and cv to my inside jacket pocket. It'll probably become my formal/Church knife.
Plenty of edge for any chore, but small enough not to seem too big to anyone.
Thanks again -Andrew

Anybody know what the history is, behind the name 'Texas Jack', for this pattern?

If I'm the only one who doesn't know, please forgive my ignorance. :o I know what the 'jack knife' pattern implies, but, just wondered, what's the 'Texas' part of this pattern?

Thanks, all.

What he said :D
I am also very interested if there's a history behind the name.
Blues or Jackknife, got something for us?

Here is a shot of it next to the aforementioned Stockman:

And both sporting their pen blades:

And just for fun, all by itself:

I don't mean to poo-poo anybody's tastes, but what's the appeal of the Texas Jack? It's identical to a 63032 Stockman (same frame, bolsters, and even scales), but with only 2 blades (pen blade where the sheepsfoot was) instead of 3. I just don't get it...

nice pics guys, helps with the idea of the size ( especially Stu)
is the blade similar to the one from the small trapper? I see the clip is shorter (which I like) but the lengh seems very similar

The pen on the Texas jack rides close to the frame unlike the sheepsfoot on the stockman. The high blade in the stockman feels odd/uncomfortable to me. That's why I prefer the 62032 jack to the 63032 stockman. That's my take on your question. Everybody's different; that's why they make both patterns.

One difference that may or may not be the case but the spear seems a little taller/wider? more stout by a slight margin. Also like Ed mentioned I like how the 2 blade jack feels "in hand" versus the three blade stockman :)

I love my Texas Jack! Perfect size for EDC if you're not into large or small knives. I'm not sold on three blade knives so all of my slip joints are one or two blades. The CV texas jack is a steal for what they sell for, get one! The secondary blade is kind of unique in that it looks different than most other pen blades. Almost like halfway between and pen and wharncliffe and very useful.

I can understand that. Some see a knife like the Texas Jack and think "that looks comfortable". I look at a a knife like that and think "you could cram another blade in there."

And, you are absolutely correct!!! - Ed J

That is the logic that can lead to this:

I feel more like this:

Some see a knife like the Medium Stockman and think "that looks useful". I look at a a knife like that and think "why did they have to cram another blade in there?"

Seriously though, I carried a Stockman for years and do appreciate the usefulness, blade variety, and the design of some of the nicer ones. I just much prefer a 2 blade Jack over either a single blade or a three (or more) blade knife.

Well, not quite. My point is, in my eyes, the 63032 stockman and 62032 TG are exactly the same length and thickness and thus take up the same amount of pocket space, so why not fit as many blades as you can in there? But for me, that's always been the appeal of multi-blade knives - fitting as many different blades as possible into as small a package as possible. It bugs me to see open spaces where blade could fit. I guess the trade-off for that is comfort (sheepsfoot blades always stick out) and bent blades sticking out at weird angles. That stuff certainly bugs me too, but that's the sacrifice I'm happy to make if it adds an extra blade or 2.

I guess the Texas Jack is hardly all that different than countless other jack knives with a large clip/spear and a pen. Those aren't really "my thing" either, but to each is own. It's just the fact that the TJ and the stockman are otherwise identical made me forget that for a moment and wonder "why?"

Well said Ed. I don't like the the look of the crinked blades either. YMMV.
