How big (or small) do you like yours?

A question: disregarding all sheeple attitudes, carry restrictions, and other external, non-relevant factors, what size blade do you find has the most utility for you?

I'm asking this question since I'm still looking for that perfect EDC for me. I've got the small Sebbie, and it comes close, but it seems like it is too small for one of my reoccuring tasks - quartering apples for lunch at my desk.

So, what size hits that "sweet spot" for you, and why?

Thanks all, and happy holidays!

Matthew

A knife with a 3" to 3 1/2" blade is just right for 99% of all daily use. My
stockman has a 3 3/8" blade and it does everthing very well. If you think
about it a 3" +/- blade is the same size as a kitchen paring knife. The knife
used the most in any kitchen.

My absolute favorite EDC is my DeVilliers Spearpoint Exectac. It has a 2 3/4" extra wide blade. Another great sized knife is my Brian Geyer fliper with a 2 3/4" blade also. I carry some 3 or 3 1/8" blades like my Apogee but the slightly under 3" blade is most practical to me for EDC.

A 2 3/4" - 3" blade will handle most cutting chores. I use a 3" blade for everything from opening mail to field dressing deer.
The small Sebenza is about perfect for me as an EDC.

I like around 3.25" to 3.75" blade, with that I get a handle length that works the best for me.

Around 3" does everything under the sun for me, don't need anymore! :p

Matthew,
You shouldn't ask such personal questions! I am a lady after all, and why should I tell anyone about my "sweet spot"? :D
Sorry, couldn't resist!

To answer the question, I prefer something under 3" when closed, under 6" open, so I guess that adds up to about a 2½" blade.

One of my 2 EDC folders (REKAT Carnivour Cub) has a blade of 3.25 inches, and that seems to be "just right" for me as a "utility knife". Now, as far as my "other" EDC folder goes, (REKAT Sifu), it's 5.4 inch-long blade seems to be "just right", since it is my "potential combat folder".:).

3 1/2-4"
Why?
The blades are long enough for some of the bigger jobs that shorter blades just can't handle, but they still do all the "little" knife chores just fine. Plus, on a folder, that blade length also equates to a handle that allows me to get all my fingers on it comfortably, and is more secure.

I can't help myself,

the answer is: C cup. That always feels most comfortable in my hand...

Although smaller can be nice too.

What was the question again?

I won't buy small folders. Usually the handle is not that comfortable for me. Also, I get much more enjoyment out of 4" folders and I find them more useful. I'd consider something longer too.

As I have small hands my most comfortable knife to carry is a Spyderco Delica which has a 3" blade.
I have , however , found that the Cold Steel Hombre with its 4 inch blade is PERFECT for cutting a bagel open.

The Busse Battle Mistress is just about the perfect size for most household tasks and has just the right heft and feel.

I carry/use knives as small as my Victorinox Classic and Spyderco Ladybug up to 4" or just over (Spyderco Police, Military, BM 710, AFCK, etc.). For a main single-blade folder, probably the ideal for me for size and utility is about 3.5" or so, but like I said, I like 'em all).

My favorite edc's are a Spyderco Calypso Jr, and a Livesay Woo. So 3" or so seems about right.

I like small blades. 3 to 4 inches will, for the most part, do all that I require of a knife. I do have one big knife for chopping, but that is it.
