How Buck Rates it Steel?

Bill, Good to see you come in on this topic as you've been w/ Buck a long time.I met you in July at the 20yr.event.I have read that the CATRA results are ASTM standards. Which does lend itself to interpreting edge retention.DM

I noticed 425M was not listed in the chart. But I think would be very close to 12C27M in stainless, sharpenability and edge retention as the elements are close.DM

i have used the 425 M at work as high voltage electrician ..
it preforms about the same as 440c
but i like the thicker edge that was on the older blades..
for me the 420HC was easier to get sharp and refresh the edge ,, for hard construction work i did break some tips ..

i would now carry a alpha or the newer tanto version to cut steel bands off conduit..

Bill Keys makes an excellent point -- "good economic value." You will pay significantly more for S30V than for 420HC.

Ed, Your right! Its hype driven. For 100% of my yearly cutting a blade of 425 or 440C will handle all my needs. If I have to work long enough to dull those, its time for me to sit down, wash up,eat supper and think of something more exciting to do.Like go to bed.DM
