I'm looking for honest feedback and constructive criticism, so let me know your opinions.

How about the ability for makers/moderators to override someones/customers full PM box when you are trying to reach them? Maybe a bigger avatar to show off our work better or a logo maybe that someone could actually read?

i think im good but then again have been here for some time
only now nd then do i thingk man i wish this was changed (not near the tiem that would warrent a change )

Set up Stacy E.Apelt (bladsmth) as moderator.
Wasn't that done already?... If not I agree.

...and does this thread really need to be stickied? Lets lose unneeded stickies and reduce scrolling if possible please

I have suggested a change to this announcement..spammers and how to deal with them - with no response
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/announcement.php?f=741&a=130
"1. Do not reply to an obvious spam post or thread. Simply report it."
The announcement doesn't actually tell you HOW to report it...it took goggling V bulletin help pages and years to finally get learn where that button was.
It would make moderation easier if everyone reported relevant posts.

Change the layout to condense the headers, ie the top left home button could come down in line with the menu links
Limit signature line sizes- I have seen 5 word posts with 6 inch signature lines
Condense stickies to one thread full of stickies,
reduce announcements or condense to one thread of announcements........etc
(again...less scrolling)

Can someone edit the title of this thread to "Knifemaking Suppliers List" or something more clear...it just gets ignored because of an unclear title

In the 'for sale' aria a lot of materials are offered by the same sellers.
I was thinking about having it all combined. Like some kind of shop or a sub-forum per seller.

Now it is quite complicated to find all the stuff one seller is offering, and seeing what material is for sale and what is sold.
To me this is important, becouse if I order material, I want to fill a flat rate box to spread out shippingcost.

I found this at the bottom of that post:

So please help us help you by helping us. You can report the spam by clicking on the red triangle in the upper right corner of the post.

Hi Spark,

I like the knife makers forum as is, but I do wish I could post the same picture in different forums. As it is now, I can't post the same picture in this forum and, say, practical tactical.

Thanks for asking us for ideas for improvement.

A lot of the links in the stickies are broken. New hobbiests are being sent there consistently. Either new stickies need to be done up with working links or something I haven't thought of yet.

This. I remember when I first joined lot of people suggested "read the stickies". Well it's tough to do when about half or more are dead links. Luckily a lot of guys were patient with me as I fired off a bunch of noob questions anyway.

Ah dammit, I forgot about setting Stacy up as a moderator. This forum is such low drama & problems that it completely slipped my mind. I'll have to shoot him a PM

It definitely would have been more of an issue if the other members weren't as willing to help out.

While I appreciate the Stickies, is there a way to not have it take up half the page each time I come here and read the new messages? Perhaps make a sticky of all the stickies?

Kevin,
It would be great to have an area that makers could upload and store PDF type files and video. This would eliminate the need for "sticky posts" and would allow users to download the tutorial / FAQ as needed. This would also keep original pictures intact as well because its not linked its actually inside the PDF file.

It's a fairly common approach on a lot of the woodworking websites and I think there is 1 or 2 moderators to control content. The IAP pen board is a good example. They keep them by year, in an area they call "the library" and all the content inside is in PDF format or video.

Inside "the library" they also have video tutorials that have been uploaded by makers in various formats. I think this would create an invaluable knowledge base for all makers, in an easy to use format. People could search, download, and store these tutorials as needed on their own PC's as well.

Thanks Larry

I agree--perhaps a single FAQ sticky containing all the child threads.

Yup... Esav set something up like that in W&SS and I swear, everyday has been better than the next, since then.:p

I wouldn't mind seeing a child forum for posting strictly tutorials.

***Gripe Warning***

I wish makers would stay true to the subforums of Q&A and Gallery. Sometimes, I just wanna look at stuff and half of the cool pics are in the Q&A.

BFC..... one forum to rule them all!

Its not really needed but I would like to see a beginners Knife makers gallery, the tutorials sticky would be great I would use it a lot:o

Spark, I think this is one of the best forums on the web.
Another forum I participate in requires that the photos be hosted by the forum. This keeps the postings intact. In an information rich environment like this is the postings are relevant for years. But if the pictures disappear after a month the thread becomes frustratingly worthless.
As suggested by others links become broken over time. A place that is easy to find for reporting broken links would be nice.
Thanks for the good job and for the concern!

One thing that I would like to see is a WIP forum so its easier to get back and see them all.
