How can I legally carry a RAT cutlery knife in CA.

I like the idea of carrying it horizontally on a belt but it can't be concealed, and I think it would be considered concealed if it was covered by a shirt or jacket as would probably be the case as i don't tuck in t-shirts. Is it considered concealed if it is not visible even if it is carried legally on a belt as allowed in the knife law sec six five something?
Don't know about CA law, but in FL law, if it's on the belt and covered by a jacket or t-shirt, it is concealed. I tuck my shirts in.

If it's really that big a deal in the area (and it seems to be from what others are posting), you're probably better off with a folder. If you want a good, tough folder, that will put up with some serious abuse, I can recommend the Ka-Bar Mule. The blade is under 4" (important in some areas), made of AUS8, and the grip is a full sized grip with rubber inserts for "grippiness" and a steel structure. The sheath can be worn horizontally or vertically.

What law are you talking about ? Or... to speed things up, are you just a big fan of fascism ?

No, but I am a big fan of reading. And if you'd been reading this thread, you'd see that what the original poster proposes is not illegal. The law has nothing to do with it.

LOL. You have an interesting writing style. No further questions as there's obviously no point in asking you anything.

There's certainly no point in asking questions that:

1) Make no sense, and

2) Make it obvious that you haven't read (or understood) this thread.

you have a natural born right to defend yourself, carry it, the only time they will know is when u have to use it...in that case who cares if its against the law if its protecting your life or that of your families?

or you can just move like i did ;-)

I just found this thread and thought I would comment on it. I live in Corona, Ca and have carried a fixed blade almost daily for a little over 1 year. I do admit that people are not used to seeing a fixed blade and stare at you sometimes. I have not been stopped or hasseled by any police at all. I do not get into or start any trouble and stay to myself . I think if more people carried a fixed blade we would not even have a discussion like this because there is no difference between a fixed or folding knife. You just have to know the laws of the city you are going to be safe. If you are in LA your knife has to less than 3".

I wonder if anyone would recognize what it is if you carried a Pink izula on a neck sheath. Anyone have a pic?

I live in CA too, and I understand it must be unconcealed (re: in sheathe, on belt. Maybe a Mercharness?) I don't carry a fixed blade only because what I can get done with one in the city can be accomplished with a smaller and more discreet folder. Living in suburbia near L.A., I see a lot of bored cops.

I don't want to tempt fate by wearing an FB in plain sight. There's something about the open carry of a knife that makes people uneasy. I had a Buck 105 (a 5" blade) on my belt at a gas station when preparing for a hike up near Oxnard/Ventura. A gal on the pump next to mine kept eyeing me and my knife. She didn't say anything, but she was obviously a little panicked (I don't flatter myself in thinking she was checking me out :) )

Perhaps you left the barn door open and she was looking at that and not the knife? Happened to me... felt like an idiot!

you know, reading threads like this makes me kinda sad, well really sad.

That an American fears carrying a knife because the police will harrass them is a terrible thing.

that said, if you are st on carrying the Rat-3 I would go with what another poster here suggested, a flat bottom sheath with a flap that folds over the entire top of the knife, similar to a multi tool pouch, keep the pouch exposed and you should be golden.

This is the concept:

Since that would "conceal" the entire knife (except for the sheath), it would be illegal. Not worth the illegal concealed weapons misdemeanor charge.

It would be nice if the "law" recognized this "right". However, the right to defend yourself does not exist except as strictly legislated. Even then.... :(
