What you need to know is blade coatings are usually a way to cut costs in manufacture. they have nothing to do with performance, stealth, protection. Strip off the epoxy powder coat of most blades and you will find mega ugly underneath. I stripped the powder coat of a becker necker and found rust underneath. Same with a Camillus CQB black ops. Manufacturers use bead blast because it cleans the discoloration from heat treat and camoflages the deep scratches left from grinding. A little 220 grit wet dry and the bead blast is gone showing all the deep scratches on the bevels. Then the work starts. The exception to these is titanium Nitride coating. It's microscopically thin so any defects on the blade will show through. TiN is also a bear to remove. It's an anti-wear coating and is actually harder than the steel underneath.
