How Cold Steel can blow all of our minds and empty our wallets.

If CS would get rid of the stupid grivory handles on the Voyager series and actually sharpen all the way to the choil, I'd be happy. I don't mind AUS-8, if I want better steel on a Lawman I'll save up and buy a Demko.

The problem isnt just paying out money for a Demko.
Im currently on a waiting list to get on THE waiting list. @_@

3V, or even S30v

VERY big difference between these 2 steels, not even close to being interchangeable. If you like the qualities of both of these steels, then the AUS8 that CS uses or used to use would be a good compromise between these 2.

They're not comparable to each other, but I think both of them are a big step up from AUS8. They certainly are big steps in different directions though!

The irony will be, people will bitch "it's still just a cold steel knife" or "$120 for a Taiwan folder, no thanks".

Yep, exactly what I would say. Cold Steel will never be one of the problem's causing my wallet to be empty.

I love my Lawman but I also only paid like $20 for it at a junk store. For $55 it does seem like you should get a little more for your money, especially since you can get an Endura in S30v for 5 bucks more.

I hope you mean VG-10, otherwise you found a one of a kind that should be worth a whole lot more.

This is my main issue with Cold Steel. The Tri-ad lock alone is not worth the hiked up price. I have an AK-47 and I wouldn't pay a dime over $50 for that knife. It's a shame when I want to trade a knife not because I don't like it (the knife is a little goofy to me), but because the knife is just not worth the price. And the lie about it being super hard use... That blade is EXTREMELY thin at the edge. Thin edges scream broken edge, not hard use.

Have you broken it though?
I'm guessing not.

People often rail about the supposed "flimsiness" of various knives, but when they actually use them, the knives seem to hold up just fine.
Unless you're digging rocks, or like stabbing holes in bricks with a pocket knife, practically all of the commercially available knives from reputable companies (Spyderco, Benchmade, Cold Steel, Buck, etc.) will hold up just fine. :)

For myself, I'd like a G-10 handle Rajah 2 (or 2.5 :D) with titanium liners and 3V.
Not because I need it (I have enough knives to last me past 10000 years of use), but because hey, why not?

Life is short, work usually sucks, and we generally die connected to a whole mess of tubes.
Why not fill the interim with a few more knives? ;)

I can't wait until CS uses high quality steels, better materials, and stops farming production to the cheapest chinese factories! Then perhaps I will buy, and recommend one.

Taiwan...
And if you have not owned one and used it, how can you make an informed decision about them?

The CS Taiwan knives I've handled and owned have all been very well made, on par in terms of build quality with anything by the big 3.

I am waiting for a Recon 1 with DLC and either 3V, M4, or maybe even S30V steel. I am quite happy with my XL Voyager and Carbon V bowies, but this would be a really neat limited run. Hell, a voyager with G10 or canvas Micarta would be sweet too.

I'm the first to admit that my country of origin bias is completely unrelated to actual quality. I've got five or six CS folders made in Taiwan, and a couple made in Japan. The Taiwanese ones are every bit as good as the Japanese ones (and probably better designs).

I would still very much like to see Cold Steel make some knives in the US. I know it's a long shot since they are doing just fine with their current business plan and perhapps not enough people would buy a more expensive US line to make it worth their while.

They'll need to come up with a different lock before they get my attention or money. I know the Tri-Ad is a strong design but it's too big a step backwards in ergos for my liking.

These two Cold Steels were just over 80 bucks shipped and the triad lock with steel sides, makes a very tough knife. Both made in Taiwan, both came with centered blades closed, even grinds, hair popping sharp and of course have zero blade play and feel like they will stay that way. Not bad for around 42 dollars each, IMO.

Come on man reading is fundamental. Pay attention to the use of "Or even" in this case I knew some guy might point this out so I said "or even". Let me explain. I've been suggesting on the subforum and General for a steel upgrade and usually use S30v as an example of an upgrade from Aus8. In fact S30v is the most suggested on here. On this thread, OP suggested 3V since they used it before. I'm not really looking for a particular upgrade just an upgrade from Aus8. It's good enough but leaves room for improvement.

Now that I've thanked BDMicarta for the steel lesson,

Yes, I'd like to see their folders to be up to par with the competition steelwise. They do that and they can be worldbeaters. Great lock, great designs, great F&F and now better steel.

I suggest two versions running concurrent. The standard Aus8, and an upgraded version.

I should add that one big thing all of the CS models I have had or handled was good build quality. Great centering, smooth action, vault lockup, few if any sharp edges on handles, decent edge on the blade.

I like the grivory handle models, and they have decent value for the price (except the Spartan, that thing was kind of sucky). My problem is with the value I see in the models like the AK, American Lawman, and Recon 1. The mini models are decent, but the large models could use a price reduction.

Also, a little bit weaker of a back spring on the lock... Tears my damn thumbs up.
