How come bushcraft knives are boring and have no bolster?

Handles are made to be gripped securely. I like canvas or burlap micarta myself, because they have a superb positive grip. Substituting a portion of this with smooth, "slippery when wet" metal doesn't make any functional sense to me. Especially considering the only benefit to having a bolster that I can imagine would be to strengthen the transition from handle to blade... all my knives are bolsterless, and are quite strong enough, I think.

Aesthetics are in the eyes of the beholder, and functional is more pleasing to me...
