How come newer Barlows are a bit rare? It's my favorite pattern.

Yes, the wharnie is original. It is a Queen Dan Burke Barlow. When I bought it I didn't realize how rare it was.
The DB Barlow is sitting on a glass of Wild Turkey 101. That's a staple in my house.

That Queen DB sure is a great one to have if you've only got a couple:thumbup:
I love mine :)

This BokerMagnum Bonsai Barlow REALLY surprised me...it's a solidly built knife with moderate pulls and solid half stops. The blades take, and keep a great edge.
For the price I would be hard pressed to think of another knife that performs better...

Then of course is my Queen DB...my scales are a little more orange than others i've seen...

I picked up a Taylor's Eye Witness single blade Barlow for a good price, do a search online and you'll find 'em. Great knife.

Lets not forget those awesome Cripple Creeks! They're out of production but if you can find em' I think they are one of the best in the barlow pattern.

Wow, feeling kind of sick today. All this great knife porn is really making me feel better, thanks.

How is the steel on that BokerMagnum Bonsai Barlow? Is it better than Rough Rider? What's Boker Magnum use in general?

I have only a Steel Warrior to compare it to. Which, in it's own rite is an awesome value in a Modern Barlow...I believe the steel to be a 440 variety, but I could be wrong on that...I keep the Boker in the garage to break down boxes, it seldom needs sharpening.I have stropped it maybe every second or third week, I didn't expect much when I bought it and it really caught me by surprise how well it has performed...
I will see if I have a pic of the Steel Warrior, it's tortoise shell acrylic...the only thing with that one is it was a real nail breaker when new...after several hundred opening and closing cycles it loosened up to a nice useable state...it's blades perform quite well, again, another pleasant surprise :)

As I understand it, the Boker Magnum line are not made in factories owned by Boker. They are made in Taiwan and mainland China. My assumption is that Boker either designs the knife or at least sets the quality level.

The Boker USA web site says these are "440 series".

Thanx Knarfeng, I thought that I had recalled 440...

Here is my Steel Warrior barlow...there are some gaps...but it is a very solid knife, and the blades are stamped 440.
For 10-15 $ one really can't complain too much about these knives...I really like 'em both for what they are...inexpensive, capable, hard working knives; and for me that is really the heart of a Barlow:)

I have the same model. It's a great knife.

I also like them old. (This was my Grandfather's)

Family.

Very, very nice. I especially like that you came into a rarity unintentionally, just because you liked it.

Still, it's no peanut. ;)

Sometimes one gets lucky. Alas, it is no peanut. I'm still trying to live with that.

Single blade daddy barlow with saw cut bone. Half stops and very pleasing snap. Made by Ulster.

I just picked up an older Irish CAMCO barlow and have a checkered bone Rough Rider on the way. They're my first Barlows.

I just received the gunstock checkered bone Rough Rider barlow. It's very nice - nice medium pull on both blades, nice snap, no gaps, the shield is fit very well into the bone, and the checkering is actually pretty good. The only thing that bugs me about it is the writing on the back of the main blade - "440 razor sharp steel". At least it's small and I can polish it off.

Pardon the fuzzies on the blades in the crummy cell phone pic:
