I have bad habits. Today I shaped my first G10 handle. No dust mask. Breathed quite a bit of it.
Im going to need some sort of respirator no doubt. But just how bad is bad in this case ?
Like is inhaling the dust once. Any worse than say smoking or idk. I guess im wondering if you need a lot of exposure to it or is it so bad that im pretty much screwed after one time breathing it ?
You can develop symptoms similar to severe bronchitis, fluid build up in your lungs, shortness of breath, sinus infection, upper respiratory infection type of feeling, etc. All it takes is a single and sustained exposure to the airborne particles for it to happen. The is no "standard" formula for this, I mean think about it. You can't diagnose having a cold by counting sneezes or coughs, right? You get that stuff in your lungs, eyes, ears and bare skin and you'll know when you start feeling sick. Every human body is different in the way they react to it. Some people can work with it and not react while others are more sensitive to the irritants.
Quality respirators are inexpensive as are the correct filters that are required to be used. If you need help identifying what PPE to use, simply send 3M an email or call them. Their service representatives are highly educated and will tell you exactly what you need to get, the shopping after is up to you. I'd much rather spend $50 on a respirator and filters than have some crazy lung disease later on in life.

I'm sure if you did your own searching you could find dozens of articles worth reading. I'd make an effort to acquire good habits, if your health is important to you.
