How did you arrive at a 110?

It's simple - I lost my first one eons ago. I've had other Bucks - probably my 301 Stockman is now the oldest, being a pocket friend for most of two decades. I saw a Sears display after Christmas some years back - had a credit - and it was $10, but too small. I saw a display of Bear knives - the x97 seemed huge, so I passed it by - for then. A TN mail order company had the old Western 100 for $15 - I had an order anyway. That was close - the squared sides reminded me of that long lost knife. A bit crude - the blade was delivered a tad dull - and stowed a bit off-centered - but it was 'close'. Then there were those really crude, but $3-$8 at flea markets, Pakistani 'clones' - gads, I hate to admit there is one in my desk drawer. Then, someone mentioned Wally-world carried knives - wow - a real 110! Of course, Academy had $40+ Bear 297s - I waited and watched - good old AL-made knives.

Sadly, my first Wally World 110 (Weren't they >$30 initially?) set a high bar - I eventually got a Bear 297 - and even a stag/Damascus 597D - but I also bought a few more 110s - then I discovered the 'Custom Shop'. It was an interesting journey. Oddly, that second 'real' 110 came home because of it's price - and my fear that I couldn't re-edge that original - false! Yeah, I like 110s.

In a very backwards way. I am a big fan of the movie "The Edge" with Anthony Hopkins. In the movie, his character uses a Brian Lyttle custom folder with Mastodon Ivory scales.

This one,

I wanted one so bad, but just could not afford a real Brian Lyttle, so I started searching for a way to find something similar yet in my price range, and settled on this 110 from the Custom Shop in Elk.

This was my first 110 ever......and boy did it "set the hook"! :D

My first Buck was a 120 back in 69. I got my first 110 in the PX at Ft. Bragg in the early 70's. I got it because it looked great and it was a Buck. My oldest son has that knife now. I tried to give him a newer one but he said he'd just as soon stay with the one I gave him.

What got me started on 110's? Just a stroke of luck.

Began hunting with a bunch of guys in the early 70's after I got out of the service. Knew I would need a good knife and just happened to pick out a 110.

Then, I found some hunting property and pulled the family together and we bought it versus leasing. Soon saw that one 110 wouldn't hold an edge long enough to process all the deer all of us were taking, so made a huge mistake and got on ebay.

That was the beginning of my addiction.

I still will not count all of my 110's but when I cleaned out this bottom drawer a while back, there were over 40 dots and no dots alone.

It has been a fun trip, expensive, but fun. I keep telling the wife that I can always at least get my money back on any I have bought.

I am back on the Buck Anon wagon having only purchased three 110's this year versus the 3 to 5 or more a month in years past.

and no Scott, I haven't found one of those elusive inverted three liners in this mess. But I keep an eye out.

Yeah, back in the early 70's the 110 was very common. Probably the best folder around. I had one and abused it to death. I cut metal banding, used it as a hammer, opened tin cans (before aluminum), etc. It finally broke the lock back so the blade flopped back and forth. I let it sit for many years and finally sent it off to Buck (in CA) to fix. They kept my wood, but replaced the blade and polished up the hammered bolsters. No charge as always. I still have and use it plus a couple more.

How in the heck did you ever figure that out? When I think of "knife" movies, "First Blood" (part1) and "The Edge" come up. I never knew that about that knife in the movie "The Edge", interesting. Oh, I might mention one other movie "Jagged Edge" in which the bad guy uses a Buck 119. Of course that isn't as rare as a Brain Lyttle custom.

Right here on BF, I did a search for Anthony Hopkins and someone had mentioned the maker of the knife in the movie, then googled him and got his homepage.

I just got a beat up Buck 110 which as some sideways wobble to the blade when it is locked up. can this be repaired? if so how or by whom?
also found a buck 111. Is the 111 the same as the 110?

Buck will most likely fix your 110.

The 111 model number has been used twice by Buck, the original one was an engraved aluminum handle in the 80's, with a western design on it.

The most recent 111's are basically a 110 with nickle silver bolsters that have a curve to them.

Is this what you have?

Depending on the age, Buck might replace it. There have been some repair issues with old 110 frames not matching up with new blades, should they have to replace a blade.

Really need to talk to Joe before sending in an older frame if you have special attachment to it.

Trax has a home fix you might try

Amazing!!!!!

My first 110 was bought in the late 70's after seeing a story in a Easy Rider Mag. on how to make finger grooves in the Frame.

BTW I didn't finger groove mine.

I still have it with the box and the sales slip.

I have other 110's that I use as EDC's, but this one has been a safe queen.

I've been a 110 fan ever since the first time I saw one.
