how did you find this place here?

Glad you made it Jim!
I found BF on Google doing a search for 110s, someone had a 110, a Case trapper, a custom, and another knife in the "sale by individuals". Bought the package shipped for $100. Lurked for about 3 years before I joined.

Not really sure...I think maybe there was a link on the Buck Knives site???

If not, I Googled for info on some aspect of the 110, and got a hit on a thread here...Whatever it was, it's probably my first post here...hmmmm...I'll take a look...

I wrote it in another thread first: This is my first serious contact to American people. I found a special Buck special and I wanted to know what's up whith this knife. I had a look in different German Knife Forums, but they could not help me, better: they didn't want to help me.

And here I found the first and the best answers. And it was funny to post here also. I tryed to use my awful school English. Sometimes it is not so easy to understand what is written here, especially when somebody is kidding the old German Buck collector. But I accept the challenge. And Dave's active aid helped me to learn what happens here.

Furthermore I like the immediate contact to Buck Knives, especially to Joe. In germany it is not usual, that a manager of the knife maufacturer is an actve member of a knife forum - thank you!

I hope, you understand my trial to communicate in a foreign language and you forbear with me if I dont find the correct words in my brain or in my online dictionary. I don't use a translation software, will feel duffy if I do that. A mashine newer will be able to write what I think.

Best regards,
Haebbie

Hi Haebbie,

Your English is just fine. You are able to write it better than some of the American's that post here :). I agree with you......"Buck" is an amazing Company.....I have never had anyone from any other companies join in a forum and make communication with me. It sure keeps me devoted to Buck when Joe H. or CJ are interested in what we post and go out of their way to answer our questions.

Oh,

I forgot to add to the general thread topic. I have (like Jim) been collecting knives (off and on) for most of my life. I got into collecting some other stuff for a while (guns, coins) but, my true love has always been sharp edged cold steel. So I sold off some of my old collectibles and wanted some knives from the makers I had collected as a kid......most of those makers are gone or sold to new owners and not manufactured in the USA any more :(. I bought a Buck at Wal-mart at Xmas 04....it was made in China. I got on the web to try to determine if Buck was still a US company. Found the link to the BCCI and Larry Oden helped me to become a member and also told me about BF. Well the rest is history, I got the Buck fever, my wife thinks we are all nuts. However, you guys are the best.....so if it is nuts to have so much fun collecting Buck knives......at least I know I'm not alone :).

ya know its only been about a year but i have already forgotten how i ended up here :o i think like most have mentioned i was searchiing for a buck knife :)
i had actually joined the bcci just before and i think since i have been hanging out in here i have only bought about seven bucks from this forum
you will have to forgive me for i have strayed i have bought over a dozen customs and even more busses  :D
but the knowledge and the willingness to share it on this forum is outstanding
not to mention the friendliness and joking and teasing make it a fun place to learn about our favourite compulsion

ps goose check your pm's again

I had just bought a BenchMade Skirmish with S30V Steel. I wanted to learn more about S30V steel so I did a search on Yahoo and one of the hits that I checked out was a knifemaker on BladeForums doing a discussion on S30V. It looked interesting to me so I joined up and have been here every since.

In Nov 2004 I bought a 110 just to rekindle some great memories from 35 years ago. That inspired me to poke around on the Buck web site. A few Google searches later and I ended up here.

Haebbie, your English is good enough for this group. Your posts are easier to read than some of us home-boys'.

Thing about language is even if you know the vocabulary and grammar, there is still the cultural context to contend with. Case in point; I was walking down a levee with a young civil engineer (from China) and some local surveyors last month. The surveyors were betting on what the next levee crown elevation would be and decided to wager a six-pack. When the reading was taken, we all laughed it up over who was going to pay for the six-pack. A few minutes latter, the engineer (Chinese but speaks several languages fluently) whispered to me, "Matt, what is six-pack?!"

JB, BA, Matt,

thanks a lot for the flowers!

Just now I realized, why some members of the BF (may be except one? :-)) were amused when I wrote that we had goose at christmas, carved with the Buck 105, and that we found lots of fat in the oven after baking. Thats too funny. But I didn't think when I wrote it. Now I'm happy, that goose carrys on posting in the BF.

But you told me how to post pics and I have the impression, that my english is going better from post to post. One request I have: please give me a tip if i write nonsense like sheet instead of sheath ... isn't that the same? :D  :foot: ;) :) :) :)

Best regards,
Haebbie
