How did you get started?

Being the proud new owner of a BK7, I was interested in finding out how others' addictions started.

For me, it was a lot of research. Getting immersed in all things bushcraft again motivated me to look into a new knife as a celebration gift. Once I started researching, watching numerous blade test videos and reading posts right here, I arrived at the BK7...and couldn't be happier! I mean...wow! How can such an imposing looking knife feel so wieldy and controllable in the hand? Now I can't wait to own more!

I would love to hear how it all started for you.

I got started with Beckers shortly after reading this forum and seeing photos of the great line of knives.
I bought my kid a BK9 for Christmas last year and then shortly after that a BK15 for myself that I use almost every single day!
I'm sure there will be another under the tree this year! :)

I was doing some kind of knife research (not sure what exactly i was looking for) and ended up on this forum. I saw post after post about wanting a Becker Necker. I had planned on not the necker, but the 14. Then I learned of the D2 option and finally settled for the 24. Then of course came the sale prices on the 4/5/15 and that made me a beckerneck (i.e. not quite a beckerhead just yet).

Was wanting a hard-use 'field' knife - good quality, no mystery steel, tough, stylish but no beauty queen.

Googled around, discovered Bladeforums, then the BK&T subforum, then the BK24

*schwing*

I was looking for a new woods blade when I saw a bk10 in a kabar catalog and loved it. After asking about it in general I was directed here, then I was hooked

I Bushcraft just enough to justify buying a lot of knives.... always been a knife junkie and my collection was already fairly extensive... I had seen so many Bushcrafters using the 16, 2, 9, and at one point or another, every other BK model ever made...

Little bit of research later and I ordered my first... a 2 with Micarta slabs...a 9 was next, then the 16, 4, 5, 7, etc etc... I now own one of almost everything except the elusive 1, and I'm always on the hunt for a 1.

I'd been looking at the BK7 for years and for some reason had never got around to buying one. Finally last July I bought one. After It arrived and I got to handle it a while I'm wondering why didnt I get one years ago. Since then an 11, 4 and 32. My sister was so liked the 4 that I gave that one to her. The 16 might be next? :)

Best friend's son is a SERE instructor. Sitting around a fire at my place a couple years ago the son (then still in training) pulled out his standard issue RAT 5 to process some wood. As soon as I put it in my hands I was hooked on the idea of bigger, solid, take anything blades. A few minutes on the internet led me here to this forum. I now have all current Beckers except 3,6,12, multiples of several and several discontinued versions. My favorite user is a Cincinnati Machax with dark gray phosphate finish. Most days when I'm out working on my property it is with me.

I had my eye on the BK2 for years and then 2 years ago I saw it on a ridiculous sale and it was all over for me after that, now I've got uh well a few :D

This forum.
Moose yelling from the mountain tops that everyone needed a Becker.
He was right.

It is impossible to search for survival, wilderness, outdoors, bushcraft knives without running into a bunch of reviews and mentions of the becker line. There is a good reason for this!

The mere sight of the bk9 on the Kabar website sucked me right in and Google kept directing me to this subforum as I researched this blade.

Like so many others, it was the BK-2 that was my gateway Becker.

Googling survival/woods type knives, and the BK2 kept showing up. Gave her a go, and the rest is history, as they say.

I was in in need of a big chopper type knife. I narrowed it down to the BK9 and one from another company. The knives themselves were pretty much a wash. Either would be more than adequate for the job. What sold me on Beckers was this forum and Ethan himself. Much better attitude and vibe than the other owner and forum. Now I just need to figure out which one I want next.

I was in need of a larger knife for when going out hiking/camping/etc. Ended up narrowing it down to a few...all of them were high carbon steel, and this would be my first foray into high carbon for a user. I just couldn't justify the price of the others vs the Becker for learning about high carbon care and use.

On top of that, the reviews were phenomenal, so I felt very confident with my decision.

So, I have my BK7 which stayed in my truck all the time...it's now with my gear permanently, and the new truck knife as of 2 days ago is a BK24 :) I am VERY happy that I chose Ethan's line, and will be a life-long supporter of the brand.

I was chilling on these forums for a while, mainly in GD and the for sale subforums, but kept seeing the snark threads pop up and saw all the mirth and friendliness in them which led me to lurking for a bit just reading. Then, a BK9 showed up on the exchange for a good price, so I bought it. Ever since it hit my hand, I've spent more time here than anywhere else on the forums, and feel much better for it. Nicest group of people on the forums, period.

To make a long story short. Went internetting. Found BF. Saw a guy torture test the bk2. Went to YouTube. Saw a guy baton a log into quarters. Done deal. Went to Amazon. Beckerhead.

I'm a long time Mora guy (because in all those years I've only had one) but I decided on an upgrade. I don't have a lot of money, but I'm a fan of well made knives, and while dreaming on Amazon I recently found a BK15 very reasonably priced. Not sure I will ever buy a different brand of production knives, although I still have a dangerous fascination with custom rigs, which is how I originally found this forum years ago.
