how do they compare in regard to edge retention, toughness an all that good stuff etc....?

I don't think they can really be too accurately compared as that would require two blades with the same thickness, blade geometry, HRC, etc (like a Spyderco Military in M390 vs a Spyderco Military in CPM-M4), as far as user experiences from reading dozens of threads and reviews as well as my experience I'd say if you did make two identical blades one of 3V and one of INFI and didn't label them, few if any would be able to tell which was which even in edge retention, destruction and corrosion tests. Although my guess is there will also be (more than) a few that will say INFI has double the edge retention, triple the toughness of 3V or any other steel out there, so take opinions with a grain of salt.

Most of the HOGs have nothing but good things to say about Fehrmans. Take that for what it's worth.

From my limited experience with INFI, I can say I wouldnt be able to tell the difference in real world use between the two steels given all other things being equal.

Most of us knife lovers would say they are both good and get the knife you like not the steel fanboys sell.

I will add also, that while they would make find smaller or medium knives, both steels advantages shine through in larger blades and choppers. Personally if I were going for a 4in fixed blade I'd choose something that sacrificed strength for better edge retention like M390 or 10V, on the other hand the custom 12" chopper I designed will be in 3V.

In my experience, CPM3V is much better. The INFI does not hold an edge as long as Fehrman knives.

All of the Busses I've owned , when sharpening it almost feels soft.
Especially compared to the CPM 3V HT Ferman does.
Not knocking Busses, but to answer your question, IMHO Fehrman knives are the best.

If I were given both an INFI blade and a Fehrman blade, I would be able to tell you which is which, in less than one minute without even using the other. YMMV.

I've owned both.

Fehrmans 3V holds an edge noticeably longer than Busse's "INFI".

All other attributes seem about equal.

+1

Fehrman's 3V has significant better edge retention than Busse's INFI, also harder too sharpen though.
