i would like to do a trade- i have never done one- how does it work?- how do you make sure if you send a knife, you get one back in trade?- i read the rules - no info- and if i asked this in the wrong forum, could someone direct me to the right one?- thank you -marc

Start a new post in the trade forums, or reply on someone else's. Email them, PM or send them a visitor message with an offer. It's really sort of an honor system, if you say you sent the knife, supply a tracking number, the other party should do the same. I have had no bad experiences so far, and haven't heard of anyone sending empty boxes or anything... good luck!

Look at people's feedback scores. There are some jerks out there that will try to screw you, but those are people with either no feedback or negative feedback. The Mods are pretty good about finding these people and banning them before they can screw too many people. It really is a trust issue though. Most people that I've dealt with here are good and honest people that love knives so they deal with integrity. Good luck!

ok thanks - so i guess its just whatever plan you and the other person come up with - maybe it would be safer to just sell the knife and then look to buy another that i want on the auction site - i don't know - i will have to think about it - thanks for the info- marc

That auction site is a risk too. I've been waiting for a month for a camera that hasn't arrived yet. Had to start a case with the site about it to try to get my money back ... and the seller had 100% feedback with over 450 ratings.

Send your trade with tracking and insurance, at least if it goes bad you've got proof. Ppl who screw others don't usually last very long at all around here.

I generally send items via USPS Priority Mail, with Delivery Confirmation, and have had very good luck. Also communication with the person that you are trading with is the key...Clearly set out shipping methods, and when you will ship.

Delivery confirmation at the very minimum. Don't be offended as a first time trader if a seasoned trader, longtime member asks you to send first as it isn't out of the question. "Most" folks don't want their reputation smeared over a trade so generally it works well. Please don't shy away from this great forum out of suspect or question as there is a lot of opportunity!

I would suggest you work out your first trade with someone who has a large amount of positive feedback, and don't be alarmed if you are asked to ship your item first. I wouldn't suggest you do a first deal with someone like yourself who is relatively new to BladeForums and has a low post count...too much anxiety on both sides.

I've been involved in 60—70 deals here and haven't been cheated yet.

thank you all for the input - i guess if someone does have a lot of good feedback i would feel better about trying it - i did not even know about the feedback till now - and i do understand that i , not having done this before should be willing to send my knife first- makes sense.

I am comfortable with the honor system. I have done maybe a bit more than a dozen trades and they have all been great experiences. Most people here are enthusiasts who regularly participate on BF and would not want to tarnish their reputations here. Trade away!

I'm going add my $.02 worth on this comment. Ironically I found this thread while checking out Pyaoliang's past dealings on here. :p I don't think references alone tell the story. Take a look, I have a score of 1. But if you look at my posts you'll see a pattern of "I'll take it", followed a few minutes later by "Paypal sent", followed a couple weeks later by "Look what I got" along with a pic of me holding the knife. The reason for the long delay is that I'm at an APO. You'd think I'd have a higher score than I do, but so many people just don't leave the feedback when the deal goes smoothly.

Not saying that to slap any sellers, just saying to look at the persons posts as well as their feedback score. ;)
