Can anyone give me any tips on how to etch meteorite. I would like to achieve the white silver colouring with all the lines clearly visible.
I have tried ferric and it comes up a dull brown grey. I tried muriatic and it didn't seem to do anything.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Steve, I have found ferric to work straight out of the bottle without adding water. Cliff Parker told me this and it works great.

I also used to etch in muriatic for depth, then a quick etch in ferric for color. Worked pretty good, but not as good as straight ferric.

Don, a lot the pieces that I have seen sold a jewelry or "sculpture" appear to be highly polished at some point in the process. I wonder if that helps with the contrast?

Joe, I've never been able to make it look good with any type of polishing, or high grit sanding after the etch. I do think some of the shinny stuff as a clear coat on it.
