i made a big mistake in a chat room and now i am being tracked down by an ATF agent.
she got me e-mail addresses (both of them)
she can then find out when i am on those e-mails and hack my computer files.
i really need some help.
anything is a good suggestion at this point.
thanks.

What kind of 'big mistake' did you make?

How do you KNOW it's an ATF agent?

The dealings I have had with ATF and FBI agents have always been cordial and professional. If they're interested in you for some illegal act they will let you know in person.

My suggestion is to call your local FBI or ATF office if someone is harassing you. My bet is it's not an ATF agent or you would have had a personal visit. If someone is posing as an ATF agent then the Agencies will want to know about it.

This is obviously not a real ATF agent. There is no way to hack your computer by knowing your email address. If the ATF wants your computer, they get a warrant for it, and come to your house and take it, physically.

If I were you I would change my email address. Its not really that hard to do depending on who your provider is. There should be some sort of member services page you can go to and change the setting on your account. I really don't think its possible to hack into someones computer through their email. Your compuiter doesn['t stay in touch with a server long enough for them to do that seeing as how it only exchanges information with the server when its either cehcking for, receiving, or sending messages. And then they would still have to be able to go through a server, which is most likely secure since the big companies that provide email and internet can't afford to have people dicking with their stuff all the time.So the only reason to even change your address would be if they are sending you a bunch of messages and bothering you. Or trying to send you a virus.
I would go ahead and follow the advice to call the ATF office too. As long as you haven't done anyhitng illegal they shouldn't be bothering you and most likely aren't. That means there is some freak out there who didn't like something you said and is now posing as an ATF officer. If you turn them in and they can be found, they definitely won't be bothering you anymore.
Good luck.
Oh yeah, make sure that if you cange your email address you contact everyone that is supposed to have your email address and let them know what the new one is.

On way to ruin that ATF agaents day, if if he's monitoring your computer, get on EVERYBODIES email list. I mean EVERYBODY; from the Southern poverty law center, to the gay nazis, and everything else in between!!!
Drown that ATF agent in a bunch of cyber-garbage!!!!

Folks,
FYI, you might want to take a look at rancherman's other posts, particularly those in the FS forum, before you waste any time on this.

look people just because i am poor dosent mean that i cant afford a crappy little computer from 1991 and 50 hours a month of internet(5.50 a month).
it also dosent mean that i dont do things that the atf might not like (refuse to say what). it also dosent mean that like a dumb f**k i didnt talk about this stuff in a chatroom. i belive the person i told about this was an agent of the ATF.

I would still recommend calling a local ATF office, as this may be some stupid joke that can turn into an "impersonating a law officer" sort of case.

If it really is an ATF agent, as mentioned above, you would definitely already know for sure.

Then again, you can try the old, point behind them and ask "Hey, what's that behind you?" When they turn to look, run away very fast.

I really did have the ATF snooping around me about 3 years ago. I called them and invited them for coffee, they came and didnt drink coffee but we ironed everything out peacefully. Give them a call!

Rancherman, I've seen several cases of phoney ATF agents and "Internet Cops," especially in chat rooms and newsgroups.

As mentioned, when a real one wants you, the first you hear about it is a knock on your front door. If your "agent" has already tipped her card and told you she's looking for you, then you know she's not for real.

Worry not.

BTW, have you considered a Cold Steel Bushman for you big knife?

This is a rather ridiculous post. In the first place, why would I want to help you if you are doing something illegal? Are you not smart enough to figure out that if you are being "tracked" on your computer, that you probably shouldn't go to a public forum and admit to doing illegal activities? Do you really think that if the ATF was "tracking" you that they would be obtuse enough to let you know? What was your real reason for posting this? My recommendation for you is to go to Art Bell's website and post this. Their are plenty enough people over there that will buy into paranoia.

i never said i was doing anything illegal(i am not!!) i said things that they did not look upon favorably ie every time a military helicopter flyes under five hundred feet over my ranch (that is illegal because it can scare the livestock into running thrue a barbwire fence.) i go out side and shoot a flare straight up into the air and also set off improvised colored smake bombs to make them aware that they are violating the law and that i know about it.(my actions are legal where i live.) also my father (he no longer has much contact with the family left me a large amount of guns when he left my mother.( i have had to sell a lot of these since.) also i am an activest against the ATF for things like waco and ruby ridge. i also have started an online group that is based around the youth international party of the '70s. they dont like that kind of stuff.

Guys, I don't think this subject belongs here -- maybe in the community forum or something, but it's off topic from Wilderness & Survival Skills. I won't move it or lock it for now, but let's take it elsewhere, please.

Brian.

rancherman,
If it was a legitimate
question, than I took it the
wrong way. There's been a
lot of trolls on the
Bladeforums lately and the
Wilderness forum has been
one of the only places to
get away from it. We have a
lot of humble and
knowledgeable people here
and I am overly protective
of that atmosphere. I
didn't see anything in your
post that had to do with
this forum. I still don't
understand why the ATF would
be after you for what you
have done and I think the
best advice for you is to go
to a local computer store
and pose your question
there.

Take care,
Jim

Brian, maybe we could talk Spark into opening a UFO, black helicopter, New World Order, and fan's of Art Bell forum, then you could move this thread there

Trust me, if you're shooting anything at helicopters, it's not going to be the ATF looking for you, unless those 'improvised colored smake bombs' you talk about are beyond the law. Just the word 'improvised' usually raises suspicions, especially when you're talking about devices that use some sort of explosive agent. Buy your firecrackers legal and enjoy them and you'll be okay.

Although I doubt you will take this advice, I suggest enjoying life and not worry too hard about being an activist. Activist usually begin with good intentions then become swayed by others in a group. Voicing an opinion is what this country's about, but group activism usually leads to trouble. I've seen many activist wind up in jail due to paranoia.

Hey rancherman,
I thought you said in the "For Sale" forum that your father was making smart a$$ posts in that forum under your name and to please forgive him and you. Now you say that he left you and your family. Somewhere in that same forum I believe that you claimed to be 14. If you are going to be making up an identity at least be consistent.

Please quite wasting our time! It appears as though your hobby is messing with people and has little to do with knives.

To those that think I'm being a too harsh--
Check out the rest of ranchermans posts. As for me this is the last one I will ever read from rancherman.

I dont kow who you are rancherman, but I find it hard to believe that if you are pointing any type of projectile launcher in the direction fo a helicopter that it would not only be illegal, but also immoral. You are taking the risk of causing an accident. Helicopters under the best circumstances are tricky to fly. I say if you are having problems, contact the correct agency, invite them to your abode and straighten it out. If you are not doing anything illegal you can get it taken care of without risking anyones life, if not maybe you might wish to halt the activities that gained you the attention. And if you are a someone starved for attention I suggest you try talking straight out. People here are willing to talk to anyone who is open and honest andwanting to converse. No need for action adventure novels. Real life is much more interesting.
