Depends what you want to trap. Northern Alberta trappers use light steel cable from various trapper supply houses to trap wolves, coyotes, deer (that is, deer often are caught in these).
For snare wire you can use just about anything as long as it is strong and pliable. Some stuff that works pretty well for snares is: that military trip wire, fishing wire,18ga galvanized steel wire,brass wire,theres lots more stuff you can use, you just have to look around and try different stuff out. Those premade snares are really cool. They come in a lot of different sizes and are real handy. I have a bunch in my kit and they work very well. IMO everyone should have few in their kit. Hope this helps

Same way! Just use a BIGGER snare and be ready to KILL what you have caught as the snare more than likely won't! 550 Paracord, cable or small rope could be used.
