The AK bowie was my second HI product after my 15" Villager. I love it. I loaned it to my father before a big camping trip as his only knife was a very, very dull AK bayonet. He was going south enough to where trouble might pop up and he would be out of earshot so to speak. My dad's a pretty big guy, but he's with my step mother and their 4 kids....plus his only means of defense was a saturday night special .25
A knife is no substitution for a firearm, but I would think twice messing with a big guy packing a big knife.
No banditos came and got him, but the AK bowie chopped firewood and whittled marshmallow sticks for the kids just fine. My little brother Tommy who is adopted from Guatemala took a real shine to his daddy's big knife (just like dad's big dump truck). He just turned 7 and is not quite "there" for a knife just yet. Great kid, but he spent his first three years pretty much being ignored and watching Mexican wrestling, so I'm waiting for him to simmer down a bit Soon...Maybe in a year or two I'll get him a smaller fixed blade to match dad's.
The short of it is that I am never getting back my knife because it is now Dad's No matter. I still have my wonderful Chit bowie (great for hunting bears) as well as my Munk Chunk Cleaver Bowie for prying apart cars, not to mention my Cherokee Rose for sandbar duels. I am not HI bowie poor Besides, the absence of the AK bowie means that I pretty much HAVE to try out my wonderful AK Boomerang the next time I get out and about
