How do i remove a burn rainbow stain from my benchmade?

For the color, maybe try sanding it?
If the color change is in the first layer and not throughout, you might have a shot, but be very selective and test to get the right grit to match the finish as close as possible.
Same idea as when you need to thin a blade, but just go to the grit that matches or higher if you want to do the whole thing.

Heads up, you might loose the labels if you need to sand the whole blade to make it even.

I'm pretty sure the heat treat is ruined. My quick google search says that a butane torch can hit 2600 F. I do not know what steel the benchmade is, but most steels are tempered at around 500 F, which is a really rough estimate, and depends on the steel, but, the point is, the blade probably exceeded tempering temperatures, and is probably not as hard as it should be. If I were you, I'd use the butane torch on his crotch, get the money to pay for the knife, and call it even. Joking about the first bit, but definitely not the latter. He owes you a knife. Currently, the knife's not going to perform as it should, even if you remove all the color.

Ruined temper. No doubt. You can send the blade somewhere to get it heat treated though (to the level of your choosing), so it's not impossible to fix.

Peters' Heat Treatment does an excellent job and has a specific blades division.

yeah... a big fail. I used some metal polish, which looks a little bit better. I guess I can get use to the titanium burnt finish. But does anyone how much a replacement blade goes for?
$25 for that blade + 5.95 return shipping ($35 for the BK coated blades). That's how much your "friend" owes you. You can even request a PE blade if you don't want the ComboEdge on such a short knife.

Probably cost more than the cost of a new blade, though.

That is a shame. Although the thought of protecting the gene pool with the sterilizing effect of blunt trauma to the guy's jewels, I think it would be much more reasonable to have him buy a new knife for you and give him the knife he "modified" with the torch and hopefully he will see that his actions have concequenses. I admit i would be surprised if someone who thinks that was a good idea will be able to be reasoned with, so I hope you simply learn from your error and move on.

For all of those that want to know what he was doing...He was probably hot knifing weed.

Hot Knifing:
when you squeeze weed between two hot knife blades and inhale the smoke.

That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard. Never underestimate the stupidity of a human being.

If you can salvage the edge and you want to remove the heat marks, my suggestion would be scotch brite polished with the grain of the metal. That should take care of it if it hasn't gone too deep.

The dude couldn't figure out how to roll a joint? Wow.

To colour will only be on the surface, no matter how deep the heat went. But in any case its a virtual certainty that the damage is through on the edge and tip which is where it matters.

The colour is an oxide layer formed through the heating in the presence of oxygen (air).

Not only was this a horrible waste of a blade, but my research show's it is an extremely inefficient method of inhaling marijuana smoke.
43% of the tetrahydrocannabinol is lost during heating of the blade. The subject is then only able to inhale 10% of the smoke generated, thus resulting in an efficiency of 4.3%.

As a comparison, we found in our lab that a water bong is 98% efficient, cooking the marijuana in brownies is 95% efficient, smoking a joint is 85% efficient, smoking a joint in a Honda civic is 110% efficient.

Your friend is not only disrespectful but also quite wasteful. I can send you the research documentation if required to prove your point. And then find a new friend. He is probably smoking stems and seeds too. No friend worth keeping.

Is it just me or does that (hot knifeing) seem over complacated. Like really, you have to hold two blades together, heat them up, inhale, then fail to get high like Bigjuice said above.

wasn't it a joke in the first place ?

anyway if i ever find someone that smokes seeds and stems be sure he'll be my friend for life, just to share evenly. :D

Taking a knife hit is way easier than rolling a joint my friend
