How do I serrate a blade?

This is my first post on this forum, so please bear with me if this topic has been beat to death. I want to how to go about serrating the rear portion of the edge of a plain edge knife to produce a combo edge. I have several knives with both plain and combo edges, but a few plain edge knives in my stable would serve me better if they had a partially serrated blade. Does anyone offer this service, or would I have to do it myself? If I am on my own, does anyone have any suggestions about how to go about doing this, like what tools to use, etc?

There is also a grinder wheel that is specifically designed to add serrations. You may want to search the year-1 general discussion archive for a post on this subject by Mike Turber. As I remember, he was considering offering serrations as a service.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

Where does one find these serrating stones/wheels?

Do you have to make your own?

Thanks

The right tool for the right job. Either use a small Chain Saw file or jewelers files, the other method that I would use as it is what I use is a High speed handpiece much like a dental drill with diamond bits, ( it works great).

Man, you folks are great! My first ever post on this forum and I get five extremely helpful replies to my question. I suppose it's time to go buy some quality files and get to work. Thanks to all.

Haz,
Mike Tuber can put serrtions on any knife. Go to the general knife forum and post a message, use his name in the subject line. Then explain what you want done. Hope this helps.
