How do I super charge my LED Flash Light?

I've got a Surefire 6PLed defender I'd like to try to upgrade. I understand you can get after market LEDs or complete new front ends that would still work with my serated bezel and give me higher lumens. I looked at a new LED from a company called CREE... the XM-L T6. But I really wouldn't know one upgrade from another. I'm not looking to spend 3/4 of the price of the flashlight on upgrades. Just something.

...and I'm only interested in light output upgrades. Not like pressure switches or anything like that.

Surefire's are great lights, But pretty expensive for the lumens. Just buy a Fenix or Olight. more lumens for the $$$$

upgrades can cost more than a new light...

I've pretty much owned all of them and I have to say that SF still cant be beat for overall construction.
Check this place out they have a really good rep over on USN and Candlepower Forums> http://www.oveready.com/index.php

Checking it out. Thanks!

I think this may be something like what you are looking for

Not sure about output modes, but 300 lumens is awesome. I'm gonna look at this one some more. Any idea what "P60" style is? I'd like to see if there are more under this catagorie on that site.

Ah... never mind. They make the same one with momentary on, in a single mode. Thanks man!

the 6P takes a "P60" style drop in, as do most in that size. The T6 can pump out alot more than that. I have one from a guy named Nailbender(from CandlePowerForums), and it pumps out 650 lumens out of that little light! I love it its great. The custom drop in was only about 40 bucks too, if i remember. Check out CPF, you'll find a lot of info on the P60. Search the LED light section there. hope that helps a bit.

Will do. Thanks.

I will tell you this: I am a confessed flashaholic recently turned wannabe blacksmith. I have many lights: Eagletac, Jetbeam, Fenix,HDS..etc..etc. I will tell you this, if you want literally a bullet proof light get an HDS. There is a waiting list For these lights but they are well worth the money, believe me I have three of them.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I'd rather stick with my Surefire. I've already invested in it. It fits my AR, and my Head-Light strap. If I start looking at new flashlights altogether, that opens up a can of worms I'm not ready for. But thanks man.

Like someone else suggested peep 'candlepowerforums', you'll find everything you need about that torch. I'm into flashlights as well as knives and that place has the same great people as you would find here for info.

yea, Malcoff is the Busse of drop ins....good luck with whatever you choose, and let us know what you go with!

Yes there are many different drop in for your surefire.I just happened to pick that one as they are a dealer on the forum.

I'll check out the malkoff stuff. Its all fairly pricey though. I'm sure you get what you pay for but I rarely require Busse-like performance out of my flashlight. Its already a Surefire.

IMO if you're putting it on your AR it should have Busse like performance. I've had chinese made flashlights with bogus claims on lumens, thin, fragile bodies and too hot to handle in less than two minutes. I wouldn't trust similar drop ins for any use, let alone a potential life and death need. You're just lowering the quality/dependability of your Surefire with a cheap drop in and might as well keep it stock. YMMV

I just realized I have 5 Malkoff drop ins. Two in Surefires, two Malkoffs and one Elzetta. :) Elzetta has videos of them driving nails into 2x4s with one of their flashlights (which use Malkoff drop-ins) with no effect on function. My Elzetta ZFL with a Malkoff M91 is 500 honest out the front lumens and virtually indestructable. That gives me peace of mind and superior function.

Ill give 6th on the Malkoff upgrades. They are awesome. I had one in a 6P defender and lost it sometime between geetting transfered twice in 6 months and working 100 hours a week. I carry a Olight M20S now and have given several extra as gifts. I really like the "S" button and use it all the time. Its a lot easier than twisting a bezel and I switch output levels all the time

Check out customlites.com.The drop ins are thermally potted so they can take a bit of a shock. And the x-ml drop ins are BRIGHT.

Ok ok... I'll check out the malkoff drop ins. Is the M61 @ 260 lumen decent? Why am I seeing 500-1000 lumens on some of these previously mentioned drop ins?
