How do I unglue this knife from my hand?

So it will take me a minute to type this post with 1.5 hands.

I just super-glued a 9" kitchen knife to my thumb.

A bottle of quick cure CA from knifemaker's supply had tilted over on my bench, and formed a pool. I went to pick up the knife and felt something wet and sticky. It had half-dried into a goopy gel-like consistency, and by the time I realized what had happened it was too late. I usually keep my epoxy and CA up in a rack to prevent crap like this, but for whatever reason it didn't make it back up there.

Lol! Too funny! I hope you have acetone or maybe your significant others nail polish remover handy?

Acetone will dissolve CA glue, if you don't have any and live with a woman nail polish remover will do it too. Just keep it working it putting the acetone on there and trying to pry your thumb off. Good luck.

Whenever I use CA, a bottle of debonder is always near by.

Quote from Truegrit site:
UN-CURE Debonder will soften cured CA. If parts are bonded incorrectly or your fingers are stuck together, a few drops of UN-CURE will dissolve the CA in about a minute. Apply on bonded skin and roll apart fingers. Once stuck, use acetone to clean off softened CA, then wash off with soap and water.

Ok it was a bit unorthodox, but I ended up using an 8/0 jewelers saw blade (about .005" thick) and was able to "saw" my thumb off the blade. Desperation breeds innovation? I lost about half the thickness of my fingerprint, but I don't think I did any real damage.

:D

Glad you got it off without injury. I had a bit a superglue accident this afternoon too but fortunately
my bottle of debonder was right at hand :-)

Good one. Did the same gluing tires onto a nitro rc car rim and just had to laugh at myself.

You can always glue the otherside of the knife to the rear bumper of a truck. Once it has set up have a buddy jump in the truck, drop in drive (not reverse) and hit the gas. It will come off quick. LOL...

Yup, get you some acetone for future such issues... Superglue can be obnoxious stuff, although it's great for quick wound care.

Glad you got free without to much damage , you have my vote for the best thread title of the year.

I'll second that. I've epoxied my pants to my leg before, but never actually glued myself to a knife.

Acetone is handy for other things as well, and a half-gallon can from the hardware store is inexpensive. Be careful about the fumes.

I'm so happy I can type normal now! I don't mind a few laughs at my expense.

Just purchased a knifemaker's membership for my first forum sale, murphy's law states that I will wait until several days after they raise the price, to purchase my membership. :D Oh well. $15 extra supporting the forum isn't that big of a deal anyways.

sorry, double-tap :grumpy:

Love that, happens to me too often.

Nothing like super gluing things to yourself...or just body parts together. Imagine my surprise when I realized my hand was bonded to my hair. as you may have guessed I was very amused. :(

Hope it wasn't "the" hand.... ;)

Debonder. Handy. Your friend.

Glad it worked out.

Well now you can carry a knife anywhere no problem, you'll never forget. And if police ask, well you have no other choice since it's super glued to you hand.

Oh, man. That could end very, very badly.

I'm just happy I got it off before the wife got home from dinner with the girls, I would have been plastered all over social media, and I might even have gained a new nickname in the process.
