the fastest way is to sand blast it off with some silica sand.
it won't hurt the micarta but i wouldn't just sit and shoot at it for no reason.
find someone with a glass beader or sand blasting cabinet and shoot it off!
it will look great left like that or make a nice surface for new paint.
well, i don't know that i'll be able to get ahold of a sandblaster. would sanding by hand with a fine sandpaper, or perhaps even wet sanding leave a half decent finish?
i'm not that concerned with how it looks, it's just that the coating is wearing off and i want it to look uniform.

Over at the 'Swamp- some folks have posted about using gel type piant strippers to remove the coating. Just use rubber gloves, a toothbrush and have good ventiliation.
