How do LEO's feel about...

No problem, probably a little overboard on my part too.

One of the downfalls of being in a smaller area is the fact that odds are you are arresting someone that you may know outside of work. It may be the guy at the grocery, your mechanic, your neighbor. Sometimes I wish I could live in one town and work in another.

I do like the fast car and the red blinky blinky though!!!

I think its about the same as everyone else has said. It just comes with the job. To all of you who have said thanks on this thread I really appreciate it. I don't think anybody really does this job to hear someone say thanks but it sure doesn't hurt my feelings when someone does.

Curious Erik where you got this statistic. Please post for me or give me a reference. I'm not argumentative about this stat. I'd like to keep it on hand for future.

I know in the case of LEO's some of the main in line of duty deaths are automobile accidents and heart attacks. Many of us don't think about those dangers. I would guess that heart attacks and other problems related to exhaustion count for a lot of firefighter deaths. I don't have any numbers though

Aflatfoot, Yes true about the "other" hazzards. Suicide is another "other" for LEO's.

I have heard working the night shift statistically peels 5 years off your life span to. Not the sleeping Firemen , I mean the LEO's.

I thank you all for the appreciation you've shown us LEO's for the duties we perform, and I thank you, the good people in the world who make our jobs a little bit easier with your support and thanks. You don't know how many times I've had a real Sh*#%* shift and someone just stops to say hello or ask in a cordial tone," how are you doing"?
The JOB would be much tougher without your support. My community stepped up to the plate for me and hit a homerun in the support department in a recent shooting incident that my unit was involved in. It made the whole process go a lot easier.

The slamming of LEO's has been pretty mild compared to what you can get on the street, or in casual conversation at a party.
My brother who is a tow truck driver gets more flak than I do on the job, and has probably had just as many death threats as well.

The vast majority of people here are great. Most of the people LEO's deal with day to day are good as well.
Bad cops and criminals should be slammed. It's a shame when the bad get lumped in with the good though.
 
As a person who has put up some posts that could be seen as negative, I would like to say that I respect police the same as I respect anybody else. I do, however, reserve the right to criticize whenever I see people doing what I feel is not right. Personally, I have never had serious problem with police. I try to live in a way that minimizes my interaction with LEOs, but when I do deal with LEOs I am courteous and respectful. I believe that with most LEOs, it is best to look them in eye and establish that you are an intelligent person while also respecting their authority. I can't guarrantee that such an approach will work with every LEO but I think it goes a long way towards defusing most situations. Just for information, I have never been bothered by an LEO about a knife although I doubt if that would ever be a problem because I try to obey the law of my jurisdiction.
 
Anthony, your approach has something going for it that everyone should consider, COMMON SENSE. I have heard a Golden Rule for LEO: "Treat everyone how you would want to be treated, IN THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES!" By the same token, I would offer this piece of advice, Treat me with respect, and I'll treat you the same way. As I posted before, YOU set the tone for this contact, usually with the first words you say as well as how you say them.

My experience with law enforcement officers has been limited. I do know one thing...I could not do their jobs. I do not understand the mind-set that allows for what would be constant tension for me.

All that I can say is...

I am damn glad that SOMEONE can do it!
