Just like the title says I am curious how your blades get packaged for shipping (not if you use UPS, or carriers). Do you have your own boxes printed, ship blade in sheath, foam packing peanuts, oil/wax on blade, reinforced tip protection, you know that kind of thing.

4" PVC pipe. Knife in sheath, rolled in bubble wrap to the point were it must be forced into the piece of pipe. Ends filled with crumpled newspaper, than then duct tape over the ends. At one time I was using plywood plugs with screws in the ends, but too many customers didn't like having to get out their tools to open their package.

Unless the customer requests otherwise, I ship via USPS Priority mail, ensured, with delivery confirmation.

Kris,
I ship in the sheath, wrapped in bubble wrap, sealed in a tyvec envelope, then packed in a box with crumpled newsprint.
Thanks,
Del

I do similar to Ed, I place in sheath, wrap in wal marts cheap felt then stuff it down a 4" cardboard tube that carpet comes on, the local carpet shops have a ton of it and will give you all you want. USPS.

Knife and sheath wrapped and slid into a zippered case.
Case then sealed in a wooden box:

I ship the knife and sheath separate - I don't want the blade to show up rusted....nor cut up.

That said, very often I am shipping just the knife itself. I wrap it tightly in cardboard, tape it down, drop it in the box with padding.

Haven't had any problems. Made several hundred shipments last year...seems to work great.

I use USPS and I ship it using their "Click-n-Ship" utility online. It's a breeze...and speedy. Plus it's cheaper than at-the-post-office....AND delivery confirmation is included for free. Even better though is the fact that the USPS boxes are also FREE!

They work hard to earn my business...so I use them almost exclusively.

Priority International for foreign shipments - no real problems either!

i like to wrap the knife in saran wrap after its sprayed with wd-40. i double wrap the blade for safety. then i wrap the knife in newspaper before putting it in the box that i pack with paper or styrofoam peanuts. if there is a sheath, it gets laid next to or on top of the knife. i make sure nothing moves inside the box.

WOW Karl, very impressive. I bet customs like seeing all those screws.

Something you don't see there is that under the luan is double sided fabric carpet tape! Even if you remove all the screws, the luan won't come off unless you PRY it off.
A whole sheet of luan costs about 10 bucks, and I rip the sides out of a 1X10. Cut up all the pieces in about 20 minutes and have a ready stack of material to assemble whenever I finish a knife.

Can we expand on this topic? How do you ship over seas? And how do you list the knife on customs sheets? thx

I use the USPS priority mail online Click-n-ship utility.

Here is a hint though. If you go onto their website and ask for free boxes, don't ask for the maximum. I got almost a pallet of boxes on my doorstep...

Dang.
