I've handled the taiwan made KABAR. It has a very comfortable grip, and a very thick, 1095 Carbon blade which means it is built to take a heck of a beating. I've never handled the ontario.

1085, not 1095. Rest of the statement is correct. 1085 is an excellent steel for a chopper.

I have both and have never been able to hurt either one of them. The Ontario is the oldest and has been treated the worst.

I agree with udtjim on this, I also own both and I put them both through hell and back. The K-Bar is my fav due to the the smooth lines and balance. It chops the way a bowie should and unless your trying to break it you can hand it down to your (or some one else's) kid.
