How do they paint knives like this?

Hey guys, I couldn't find any previous info on this in the forum so I figured I'd ask...

I'm curious to know how one would get a design on a Karambit like the following:

Are these hand painted on? Or done through some sort of machine?

Reason I'm asking is because I'd like to find a company/person to do this for me, or if its easy - do it myself.

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks!

The top one looks marbleized or plastic wrapped and painted. The bottom one is anodized.

For the cost of it being done you could just buy the United Cutlery version and have money left over.

That is what I was thinking too.

Haha, seems that people are starting to copy and sell real life version knives from CS:GO (a video game)

as you can see here (just a few) http://images.akamai.steamuserconte...451/DE83960012051051422A2AA8C3AC001CE7AB245B/

And you can purchase them here https://elementalknives.com/ (and other companies)

they are just cheap chinese blades with some paint, something to display.

The UC karambits are very functional kbits, not the highest quality but its a bladed instrument and will serve the purpose it qas designed for. The paint isn't my thing but still looks cool.

On a side note, how is that UC anodized? I don't think you can ano steel.

Its not anodized, its painted, being united cutlerey its likely very cheaply done. You cant anodize steel. It cam be heat colored slightly, but that may compromise the heat treat. Its most likely some type of hydro dip or powder coat.

They are incredibly precise in the grinding, flawless and far finer and crisper than many custom knives I have, probably because they are machine-shaped... Fit of the moulded handle is outstanding... Even the handle ergonomics are not too bad, if a smidgen on the small side for my large hands.

However the edge is incredibly thick and absolutely useless for any cutting, and it would be a huge ordeal to get any kind of sharpness into them given the concave curve and thick bevel.

I buy them solely for the OK nylon shoulder harness, and chuck the knife... If they were sharp they would be impressive...

But you throw it out because they are Dull and don't have ideal cutting geometry?

That sounds a bit far fetched.
I haven't owned anything by UC that I would consider anything beyond passable at best, and not frequently hitting even that mark.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

And you are talking about United Cutlery here?

Looks almost as if it was printed on the metal somehow but then again, I've never seen this on a blade before but other items.

Buy one of those $30 United Cutlery Karambits and you'll see what I mean: Mirror-like surfaces, dead-true flats all over, with perfectly crisp grind lines... Not the huge hills and valleys (with extra mini-hills for each sawtooth) all over the blades of my $2000 pre-dot Liles, which I had to get RazorEdgeKnives to flatten out...

Impeccable black finish that both shines and looks tough: A little like gun blueing, whatever it is that United Cutlery uses... And not a machine or grinding mark in sight... Even the text on the blade looked incredibly precisely printed...

And yet these UC karambits are so dull, the spine or edge, it made little difference... Go figure...
