how do yall sharpen your sr101 knives
i have a lasky stick sharpener and i am having trouble getting my RS to the same sharpness as my esee or kabar knives
any suggestions
Thanks,
Thomas
Edit: i have done some research and found out that a rod system will not work for an convex blade... is their any kits to get started?

I use a diamond rod, but I'm not concerned with keeping a convex edge.

Might think of using diamond paste on a leather strop, also the sand paper on a stiff mouse pad works as well.

I have used sand paper and a mouse pad too but have had better luck with the sand paper on leather. It is firmer and I doesn't tend to round for me. If it really needs work I use a cheap belt sander I bought at harbor freight and used to practice on junk knives first. If you want to find sand paper, check places like autozone. They carry finer grits than the home improvement/hardware stores.
Good luck.

Worksharp Knife and Tool Sharpener. I use MicroMesh 150MX and 360MX belts, and follow up with the WSKTS 6000 grit. Then I'll strop it on treated followed by plain leather. (Only had to do it once - it's held up quite nicely.)

Without the WSKTS, I'd go for sandpaper on leather. It really is nicer than sandpaper over mousepad.

I use the cheapy Harbor Freight 1"x30" belt sander with good belts meant for grinding metal (3M Trizact and Norton Norax). It doesn't get any easier, but you can mess up in a hurry if you aren't careful! Search posts I've made here on BF for a LOT more information if you want to know more. Can also Google "Jerry Hossom" along with "Sharpening my way" for further details.

To re-profile (convex) mine I used 100, 180, 220 grit zirconia sanding belts on a 1x30. I used emery boards (the finger nail variety) to get rid of the burr then stropped it with Strop Man's med then fine stropping compound. The thing slices magazine paper like no other!

i have been trying to sharpen my RS with my lasky rod system and i want to keep the convex so will i have to do a bit of re profiling to get it back to a convex edge or can i just go to the higher grit sandpaper and go from there

I use sandpaper up to 2000-2500 grit strapped to a leather strop and then strop with black and then green compound from bark river.

I see it has guides. Is this the best dummy proof convex sharpener? Any guides on a 1x30 belt? As of right now the spyderco sharpmaker is my salvation. I can't strop to save my life.

You have to put on a good sharp edge before stropping does anything for you!
