The mousepad trick works well. One can also sharpen a convex on normal benchstones. I did that with my BUSSE Basic 4 yesterday.

I use a thin hard mouse pad with what seems like a urethane skin for graphics. The side with the graphics has very little give and for me is perfect for convex edges.

I think it is one of the cheapo mouse pads from Best Buy.
