How do you all get your names out there?

sure are a lot of good tips on here, but I feel they have fallen on deaf ears my friend... don't just hear the comments, but listen to them. conversations are a two way street and when some very well respected people answer your questions and ask you one simple one in return... oh I don't know, such as "what's your name?" and you don't respond in kind, it doesn't bode well for your future as a salesman.

just my two cents

Royce

I tend to agree, Royce. :)

also to the OP, put a more specific location that just "North Carolina" in your profile. There are several makers from North Carolina who post here. You could be 5 minutes from one of us and not know it.

....So I've been having some issues with getting my name out there....

Hmm....can't for the life of me figure out why? (<<<Sarcasm.) Step 1: STATE YOUR NAME! You ask for advice on how to get your name out there and you've been asked many times in this very thread now, "What is your name?" and it seems to be getting ignored by you. If you won't even take simple advice and state what your name is, how are you ever going to 'get your name out there'? And do you really even want to?

My question is how did you all begin getting your names out there for people to see your products?

Most of us use our names to associate ourselves with our knives. If I google 'J. Doyle Knives' I get all kinds of pics and posts of my knives and about me....instantly, without having to search at all.

What do you think I came up with when I googled 'Blue Collar Steel'? Nothing about knives at all. Just page after page of steel suppliers and other stuff.

Can't find you, or your knives, or even a link to your instagram account that you said you have because you didn't tell us that either.

I'm not trying to seem harsh but you asked a seemingly serious question, got tons of GOOD advice, the simplest and easiest being to state what your name is, and it's being ignored by you evidently. I'm not so sure you're serious about getting your name out there after all.

Cut him some slack fellows, he is in the Army and may not reply all day long, or even every day, like most of us can.

I feel he will likely introduce himself properly when he comes back, and when he feels ready to upgrade his membership, change his user name.

This from the 'Filling out your profile information would be helpful' guy? I'm stunned!

The more knives you sell, the more knives you sell. And put your name on the knives you sell.

I was just saying that it had been only two days and people were saying the OP was ignoring them.

I will honestly say I cruised through the posts so fast I thought a couple of responses were the OP and were responses omitting name etc. But I get what you were meaning.

Im a buisness owner. Selling knives or a product is not an easy thing. It take a lot of attention. Most of the time what you put in is what you get out. Selling a product or sevice is pretty much the same. You need quality, availabilty and time.

The quickest way to get your name out there (after your name is known) is to send knives to a pro photographer like Jim Cooper, Caleb Royer, Buddy Thompson or Cory Martin. Not just one or two knives, but enough to matter.

They will post high quality pictures of your work on the interwebs and see to it your work is published in knife magazines.

Also, run an ad in Blade Magazine each month for a year and you will be famous...

My name is Kurt Komyati. As mentioned before I am active duty military so its tough to find time to check the forum and write back. Let alone enough time to try and run a business on the side. When I said name I was referring to my company name but now I see that it is just as important to have my actual name out there as well. Thank you very much for all the help.

If you're making custom knives.

It's you. You're the maker. You're the brand.

Forget branding a company name

I do both, "Promethean Knives by Salem Straub." It's a mouthful, yes, but I like that the brand conveys a bit of mystique beyond the name. If I had to go with just one though, it'd be my name.
Make a lot of knives, and post them wherever you can. Make nice ones and show them in Customs and Handmade. Get a knifemaker membership so you can solicit business. Keep doing those things. Print some decent business cards, keep 10 in your wallet at all times, and give them away whenever you get the chance.

Alright I can honestly say I had no idea I would get this many responses. Like I said before I appreciate all the advice and will keep everything in mind. For the most part I do not get on here much at all and when I do it is usually for a short time and I can respond with a brief message. I'm usually up at 4:30 in the morning and don't get off work until around 6:00 at night. With other things in my life wont get home until 9:00 or 10:00. I try to get on here when I can because I love reading all the advice from every one and reading other peoples threads. With that said I will update my information to provide more as well as include a signature block as I see every one else seems to have one. If you google me then nothing will come up because I am new and I am trying to grow so that you can google my work in the future. (I do have some little league baseball things on google so that should count for something. :D ) So once again my name is Kurt Komyati and I will work on my information as well as a signature block. In the mean time I am on Fort Bragg in Fayetteville NC. Thanks yall

I did find your instagram page. There is some nice stuff on there.....definitely worth spreading the word and getting your name out.
