How do you carry a backpocket?

Sounds like a dumb question and I did do some searching.

If I carry it horizontal in my non-wallet pocket it totally digs into my a$$ bone. I'm pretty sure thats the technical term.

If I carry it next to my wallet it falls over every time I remove my wallet and then I have to do the little dance of "remove knife, replace wallet, replace knife"

My answer is in the front pocket, but that seems to defy the name.

So how do you carry a backpocket? They seem rather popular.

No purses...

I've never had a backpocket pattern however I always thought that the small lanyard was there to for a purpose. The lanyard hole would be towards the top of the pocket and the leather from the lanyard would be left out of the pocket, and would hold the knife strain up and down.

Again, never owning one my assumption could be totally off, but thats what I always thought it was there for.

In your back pocket duh :D :p I have never owned one but if I did I would actually lay it down in my non wallet pocket side ways. Remember that is what I would do I think. I have never owned one.

You're right. I should have added "does a lanyard keep it upright in a non-wallet pocket?"

The sewn pocket is interesting.
Elliot, thanks for the link but it seems to be aimed at keeping them from falling out of a front pocket. A wadded bandana might work in the back pocket. Maybe I'm just a smaller knife, front pocket kind of guy.
It seems like the backpocket has become a popular model. A big knife is nice. Carrying it in a back pocket sounds reasonable, but that's where I sit...

I end up "doing the dance" where I have to remove the wallet, then the knife, then return the wallet, then return the knife.

I haven't found a way to have it "stay put" yet allow for wallet use, and I don't want it loose in a back pocket with nothing else in it.

Of course - pants are different, so my experiences during the week with khakis is different than nights and weekends with jeans / shorts.

I've also tried carrying a Vic Swisscard in my wallet with no knife in pocket, but it makes the wallet painfully thick.

So for now I will continue to do the dance.

I had a real nice stag BP,4.5", by Reese Bose.I carried it for a while in my backpocket, next to my wallet. One time I pulled out m wallet & the lanyard on the knife somehow got hung up with my wallet ,and it went flying out dropping it on the floor.
So I do not carry folders of that size like that any more.
I carry 4" BP style in my watch pocket of these Wrangler jeans I wear.
I have a 45" BP,currently,by Menefee,I have not carried that one yet.

Thanks for the video. I had been turning the blade away from my wallet. Then again, it's not a bifold. I'll be due for a new wallet soon anyways. I really appreciate the extra blade length of the backpocket.

Wow, I thought I'd come out of a dream only to see Casey Jones and the old Cannonball Express...Who was that man?

Well you can't get any more definitive than that. I'll give it a try. I live in jeans so that part is easy. The lanyard may well be the key to not having it fall over when the wallet comes out.

Thanks Kerry (and Tony)

I almost lost my Buck 307 once, the ONE time I put it alongside my wallet. I'd attended a presentation at a local library, and they'd passed around a donation jar. I took my wallet out to retrieve some cash for the jar, and didn't notice that it'd snagged my knife and pulled it out of the pocket. It dropped only a few inches, onto a low bookcase behind me. The only reason I didn't lose the knife, is because a VERY NICE gentleman nearby had seen it drop, and pointed it out to me (whew!). I'll never carry it that way again.

I'm truly becoming concerned at the levels of consternation, confusion and perplexity associated with something (seemingly) as simple as putting and keeping a pocket knife in our pockets.

I think I'm beginning to understand why we seem to be slipping back behind other countries in regards to math and the sciences.

What ever happened to that old American "can do" spirit?

Is this topic the springboard that will catapult us forward? One can only hope. ;)

(You'll notice that none of our European, South American, Aussie or Asian brethren have posted in this thread. They seem to have figured it out for themselves.)

[tongue-in-cheek] Probably because they use purses... [/tongue-in-cheek]

It seems that the gauntlet (or purse, as the case may be) has been thrown. The battle cry resounds. We shall be lucky to escape an all encompassing inferno of war!

(I always feared it would finally come to this. Fortunately, the complex of bunkers at Wilfred Works is the perfect place from which to direct and marshal our forces. :p)

Surely that's "The Can Do" spirit??:D

Backpocket doesn't feel particularly comfortable, then there's the wear on pockets and upholstery  A Gent surely keeps the big ones in his coat-pocket...
