How do you carry a Zero Tolerance?

I've been looking at those knives, and it's clear that they all have a quick assisted blade that only requires a small push on the tang on the back of the handle when the knife is closed. So I was wondering how you would carry one of these knives without it opening on you in your pocket or belt. I'm very uneasy with choosing a zero tolerance as my next knife as I don't want to bump into something and get a big gash in my thigh or hip.

So is there a special trick to these knives or are there special way you carry them?

No special way, just like any other folder. The only accidental way for it to open is dropping it. If that's the only thing holding you back from getting one you need not worry on it. I carry tip up right hand, left hand occasionally fyi. Great knives take a chance, or get an unassisted one.

These aren't assisted

It isn't called speed"safe" for nothing. The detent is pretty good at keeping it closed.
I've never had any unwanted Accidental blade openings from assisted knives.

I EDC 3 ZT knives and havent ever had a problem. I have a 300, 301, and 560 that come with me everywhere. I waistband the zt300 and have no concerns about an impromptu sex change.

oh ok that's helpful then. I've never got to play with an assisted blade much before.

I know Canada has laws around spring opened knives or something of the sort, would that include the 300? Or is it made differently? One of my friends was caught with an assisted benchmade and he got to keep it and even got a compliment from the officer. I wouldn't want to get a $250 knife confiscated.

I've never had an assisted opening knife open in my pocket, especially my zero tolerance knives. My ZT303, nor my ZT350 have opened in my pocket in the two years I have carried them. The initial detent on the knife is strong enough where is shouldn't open without operator intention.

I have carried one of my ZT 0300's in my front pocket more then any other knife for the last 3 years(tip up RH when I have a gun on my belt and tip down LH when I have to go with a pocket gun) and they have NEVER accidentally opened in my pocket. I use them on job sites and during NCR roll-outs at fast food chains when we have them so I have rolled around and squeezed into walls and crawl spaces with them without one coming open unless I wanted it open. I know its hard to take other peoples word for it but they will not come open on accident.

In canada, assisted openers where you have to press on a blade stud/disc/flipper to open (as opposed to a button on the knife, or by gravity) is legal. Just make sure it won't snap open by wrist flick only.

Again, my ZT/kershaws and my CRKT assisted openers stay closed even with hard wrist flicks, but open when i need them to.

This is great! Thanks everyone this was very helpful!

I'll start saving up for a 300 then :)

I think most ZT's are unassisted, it's just the 0300 and 0350 that are. But Kershaw does a good job with A/O, only had one open on me from a bike fall once.

So if I understand this right, in Canada assisted opening knives are ok but if you can open it by a wrist flick it is illegal?

Only certain assisted knives, but yes, wrist flickable knives, gravity, switchblades and balisongs are illegal.

thats sort of accurate, but the wrist flick thing is a bit foggy, I can deploy my junkyard dog with a good upside down downward flick but its still legal, as long as thats not how its designed to deploy you should be fine

i had my emerson cqc10 seized cz that custom dude said he can "flick" it open. i was so choked.....
anyways i never had a knife open on me in the pocket....it has to do with the way u carry ur knife....if u are carrying it tip down, i should have it pushed all the way to the side of the pocket so there is no space for the blade to open.
