how do you carry just a little bit of duct tape?

Wrap a few feet around a water bottle, a pencil, a toothpick, a flashlight, etc, etc, etc....

What's wrong with the "big roll" anyhow ? It's not that big (for a rucksack), suce it might not fit in your pants' pocket but it's not meant to go there anyway  Stick a roll in your baggage, i should fit around some bottle's neck perfectly Besides, if you cut it to length it might end up being too short  Take what you have, that full roll.

one way to have a little tape

Try just a thin piece of cardboard and wrap a few feet around it. You can make several of these and stick them in the nooks and crannys of your bag. But wrapping some around a flashlight or waterbottle is a good way to make sure you have some close by.

you can also buy the mini-rolls. usually I just cut off a small part of the cardboard core of a toilet roll, press it flat, then coil some duct tape around it.

I wraped mine around a pencil then cut off the ends of the pencil to make it a nice neat roll.

You can also buy flat packages of it, such as in the camping section of Wal*Mart.

Also check the automotive section of Wal-Mart, I bought a flat pack of blaze orange duct tape there 2 days ago, .97 cents for 10 feet by 3 inches.

I wrap tape around a bic lighter. I've been using the same one for a few years now.

I also have a space blanket attached by ranger bands to the lower part of my BK-7 sheath. I left the blanket in its plastic wrapper and wrapped it with about 4 feet of duct tape. This worked well. Mac

YOu can also go buy a role of 2 inch double sided tape and use its backing to put 2 inch duct tape onto. It works well and is a good option if you don't want to wrap it around another object.

I fold about 1/4" over and stick it to itself then just start rolling untill I have a mini roll between 1" diameter and 35mm film can size. These pack well in glove compartments, packs, tool boxes, junk drawers etc. anywhere. Make three or four and distribute them everywhere, you will almost always be able to find some when you need it.
Enjoy!

I get the big roll but how do you keep just a bit on you or in a fanny pack or small bag?

Pocket Duct

I have a few packets. I carry one in my wallet and one in my coat pocket. I have them tucked in quite a few places.

Duct tape in hot weather like car trunk sticks to itself and gets a gooey mess. The double sided tape idea eliminates this problem.

Have you ever worked with doublesided tape? It SOUNDS like a great idea -- until you try to actually do something with it. It is a royal ass-pain. :grumpy: You don't have to take my word for. Buy some and give it a try. Who knows, maybe I'm just the clumsy type. :)

That's really cool... and just as importantly, it's not grossly overpriced.

Yo...Skammer I beg to differ, just to check, I dug a miniroll out of my "off road only" jeep (I meant to attach a pic but can't get it to work) its at least 10 years old and about as fresh as you could want. Admitted, its wasn't in a trunk but has spent numeous summer days, in a glove compartment in the Utah desert. The gooey issue may have something to do with the brand I think this was 3M. I have had cheap duct tape dry out and the glue turn to powder after a couple of years, so I use the best duct tape I can find (when I can't get 100 mph tape).
Enjoy!

I do nothing more than pull out about 3 feet of tape and fold it over onto it self about 3" at a time until I have a little pad of tape. I have had some in my wallet for several months and others scattered about. Works great and have had no problems.

Not talking about the tape but the plastic backing for 2 sided tape.

I have a role of 3m tape at this very minute at my feet that the glue is half melted from 1 summer in my trunk, is why I put it in a grocery bag to begin with. It is still usable however but messy.

Your point on cheap duct tape is true however there is no comparrison to the good stuff.
