How do you carry the big ones (they keep falling sideways in my pocket)?

Hello,
I have several slippies, but the full size trappers are my favorites. I have a Case and a Queen and like them each for their own features. A couple times a week, I'll put the Sebenza or Benchmade back in the drawer and carry only a slippie. The problem with the long Trappers is they seem to turn sideways in my pocket and make a huge bulge. When they remain vertical, I can't even feel them but once they fall down I have to adjust it. How do you guys fix this problem (I can't be the only one)? Right rear pocket is out, but all the rest are available.

Three things come to my pointed mind. :D.

1. jackknife's thought of using a bandanna in the same pocket.

2. Sew a little flap in the pocket. I found some slacks at Costo that already have them sewn in.

3. Carry in a sheath.

Funny I was just talking to the wife over the weekend about a funny thread title I had in mind for this forum because of the problem I was having with carrying a large slip joints like 4 1/4" trappers in the same pocket as an Umnumzaan.

The title was going to be: Does anyone else have trouble with having Knife Fights in their Pockets? :D

What was happening for me was, the Trapper was losing the fight with the Umnumzaan by getting marked up by the other knife which was clipped but is so long it would come in contact with the trapper when sitting to drive or run equipment.

The other front pocket was out of the question because of the Many keys I carry. I found my answer in being able to still use and enjoy the large slip joints I've used all my life was by carrying them in my hip pocket beside my wallet. They stay up right, in place and knock on wood :D, they don't fallout.

If you carry a phone just put it alongside the knife. I carry a GEC Pioneer like that pretty frequently. Without the phone to keep it standing up I feel like I've got a cinder block in my pocket.

I asked the same thing (but for backpocket) and Blues answered with a link in post 59 of the "Photos - The Bose "BackPocket" Knife " thread. Should work for front pocket carry too. Also, William Henry has pocket sheaths with clips I think.

I just let it go. After a while you get used to it.Sometimes I find myself moving it over.

I carry my slipjoints in the front left pocket, where it lays next to my wallet. It stays vertical that way and I don't have a problem with it flopping around.

I've done the same and still do when carrying one slip joint. Back in the days when I would carry one knife in my front pocket, mostly a large Stockman or a Buck 110 at times, I would have a worn mark on my jeans from the knife riding horizontal all the time.
How it feels?
Since I've been carrying a knife in my front pocket everyday for over 45 years now, I think I have forgotten what it's like to be lighter in the right front pocket. It's an age thing I guess. :D

The (12) Keys in my left pocket cause more trouble than any knife ever did.

My right rear pocket is out due to the .380 in it, but since this is not a quick draw knife anyway, I'm trying it out in my left rear pocket next to my wallet. Since I didn't put a clip knife in my pocket this morning, my right front pocket is empty for the first time in years. It's kinda like wearing boxers for the first time...

My daddy carried a Case trapper all the time, for 40 years, every pair of of his blue jeans had wore marks where that knife was laying. He used to have two holes where the bolsters on the top and bottom of the knife sat. Finally, after forty years he just got a smaller knife!!!

I carry mine in the coin pocket. The small pocket is actually fairly big and will hold most of my knives.

All of my work jeans have a faded horizontal line on the outside of my front left pocket from regularly carrying a 3 3/4" to 4 1/4" slipjoint there. I've tried belt sheaths and they are always hanging up on stuff.

I love it!

Just curious - what sort of trapper did he carry? Also, did he scale down to a mini trapper, or something else?

I carry a small knife and a larger knife every day. The large knife almost always rides vertical on the outside of my wallet. The small knife typically rides in the 5th pocket of my jeans. Both provide easy access and they don't get all scratched up. That being said, I wish Derrick would come out with a pocket slip that would carry two slipjoints.

I use this for front pocket carry might work for back also, but only up to 41/2 or so. You can make them or buy them from Ron Ryder.

Some of the Buck 110ers carry theirs this way....Ron R. would be glad to sew you a seam up the middle of his.

Sheath goes in back pocket, wallet slides in beside it. Photo may be flipped, I would put the pouch on the outboard side.

I feel exactly the same way. Many good suggestions have been given here. I've carried my wallet in my right front pocket for as long as I can remember, and I don't even notice anything different when I slip a full-size trapper next to it - vertically. Never could adjust to it riding horizontally in any pocket. I've found that 3 1/2" or so, depending on the knife, is about all that I like to carry horizontally.
