How do you carry you EDC gadgets?

I try to limit the amount of things that I EDC. I carry work related stuff in my leather messenger bag along with the laptop when I need it.

I always have my Fenix L1P light on my belt in a kydex holster with a spare battery. I carry either a SOG Flash II knife or a Spyderco Delica clipped in my right front pocket. Cell phone either goes on the belt or in a cargo pocket.

If you guys want a good holster for your flashlights, I highly recommend LITEmania on www.candlepowerforums.com if he has one for your light. He also has holsters for multitools. Click here for his sale thread.

My Fenix light came with a nice nylon holster, but it quickly began to hang further away from my belt. The kydex holds nice and tight to the belt and I forget that it is even there. It's also nice to have the extra battery right there all the time too.

Light (HDS or McLux PD) clipped in left front pocket. Main pocket knife in right front. Spyderco Tasmant Salt PE IWB right side. Wallet/keys in left front, pens and SAK in right. I'm not fond of hanging things off my belt. In fact, I don't even wear a belt.

Take it or leave it, as you see fit. Any EDC gear you believe is essential needs to be on-body. Pockets, lanyards, belt sheath, etc. Any off-body carry; purses, knapsacks, etc. is definitely sub-optimal. Sometimes necessary but not ideal. That is why my EDC gear is minimalistic.
P.S. If your daily activities take you on or near the water even pockets become a poor second choice unless they have positive closures (velcro, zip, etc.) Clips and lanyards become essential. Again this philosophy doesn't fit everyone or every situation, but it works for me.

What I don't have on me goes into my Fatboy/man purse:) Generally, I will have folders, lighter, Micra, Gerber Infinity, bus pass in my pockets. On my belt is usually my Inova X5/multitool. Wallet, keys, etc go into my fanny pack which goes into my desk drawer when I get to work. I tend to wear cargos a fair amount, and they will usually hold my "new" folders:) For the most part - just what I need at the office.

You might consider getting a military web belt and suspenders and just add pouches via alice clips as you need them. You can get pouches just about any size in the Brigade Quartermasters catalog.

Carry it if and how you use it.

If: There's a lot of lists around about what you should have available 24/7, full of great advice, but be honest with yourself - if you're not flying over the Rockies on a regular basis, then a mini fishing kit might be better stored in the book bag or briefcase to make room for the mini-leatherperson with which you can pull staples and open envelopes in your cubicle.

How: depending on your training and usage. For example: Flashlight off hand, weapon strong side. Reading glasses where you can see them: in your breast pocket. Wallet in your blazer/vest/etc pocket instead of sitting on it if you drive a lot.

If you can't find a suitable manufacturer for your goodies, consider making a custom piece for yourself out of cardboard and 100mph tape. If it works, then send the pattern to a Kydex-fabricator for something more permanent.

I struggle with what to carry, and how to carry it. Evidently many folks do, evidenced by some of the threads on the the subject (thank you UnknownVT :)).

I've been trying to minimize. Colt 1911 felt like a toaster oven on my side, so a mid-framed Glock or little Kahr PM9 now lives there. Small flashlight that makes big light (Fenix P1 on a rechargeable CR123 battery). A little backup Arc AAA on my keys. I splurge a little sometimes on the knife size, sometimes going with a large Sebenza, SnG or 80mm Manix. Multi-tool gets as small as possible - Hiker or Tinker has everything I need and nothing I don't. Point being that part of the how and where to carry issue can be addressed by going with the
"small but functional" approach.

cheers
