Hi

Do you carry across your body? for example if you are right handed do you fix your fixed blade on the left side of your body?

Or directly under the hand you draw with?

I find it clumsy to use the second method. Its hard for me to find the sheath when I want to put the knife back in it.

Any tips

I carry horizontally on the weak side. I prefer a shorter blade, though, at 3.5" +/-. I also do lots of bushwhacking, scrambling, and climbing when I'm out. I bend and squat a lot. I've found my setup to work well for those activities.

I have been experimenting with cross draw and baldric carry. For many years, I have carried on the strong side hip, but I am slowly changing my mind.

Sadly, that means a lot of work for leather suppliers;)
This is what I came up with for my Spyderco Bushcraft knife. Idea came from one of our members.

Right side, verically. Every once in a while with smaller knives I will do a IWB carry.

Small of my back unless it is a larger blade and I am riding in a vehicle, then it is right side

With my smaller fixed blade knives I use a tek lok to carry horizontally right in front, just to the left of my belt buckle, for right handed draw. Larger blades or those with leather sheaths get carried vertically on my belt on my right side.

In the bush I usually have two fixed blades within reach. While I am for the most part ambidextrous I am predominantly right handed in knife use so I have one smaller fixed blade knife tip up on my left shoulder strap for quick access, and then a stout fixed blade on my belt actually attached to me.

Leave the strong side for my pistola. Usually some kind of folder in one of the front pockets

Most times strong side IWD up to Six inches, larger Outside cross side. If neck what ever works :} But am Ambie so confusion reigns ...

When it comes to big blades, my Mountainsmith Maverick makes life easy with its two large side pockets, hiding my tomahawk and machete while easily accessable via over-the-shoulder draw. My Koyote Leuku is always on me and came with a vertical belt carry sheath, thus this is how I use it. My RC5 is carried small of back, and my EDC/companion/neck/boot knives currently ride in the pack or in pocket based on the limitations of the sheath.

All depends. Some times drop rig strong side under a belt holster. Weak side reverse grip, strong side on my belt. If I've got a backpack on I'll put a smaller one on the strap. Then normally a folder in one of my pockets.

Large fixed blades 8" on up, I carry on my pack. 5" or less strong side standard carry. I'll also carry in the side tool pocket of my Carhartt's if it's a smaller fixed blade. Another option is in the back pocket with a dangler sheath for small fixed blades.

I'm ambidextrous but write with my left, throw with my right so I naturally put heavy 7" blades on my right hip and smaller 4" blades on my left. I'm looking to tie one of them to my pack strap though.

When carrying a pack I carry a knife upside-down on the weak-side strap.
I never carry horizontal, tried it, couldn't get used to it. If the knife's on my body it's on my strong side... since I can't carry a hand gun. :(
