How do you carry your folder with a clip?

Excellent feedback gang :)

It is always a sad day for all of us when a good knife is lost, but it does happen, and the lesson's learned can be shared to help others against this happening to them.

I have thought about IWB thing, an felt it a bit uncomfortable, i will try for rest of this day an evaluate it further, although it doesn't look good already.

Still trying to avoid that, quoted form someone else, i forget now whom, but "Moving hardware store" feeling with some reasonable security.

Thanks for the info so far all :)

I guess I'm a bit old fashoined! I started carrying knives in the bottom of my pocket and I can't get used to clips. Everything BM 940 size and smaller gets the clip removed and droped in the bottom of my right front pocket. Clips are EVIL! :)

I carry my Spyderco Native inside the waistband (right side) with the clip under the belt, the Native has also a lanyard so it's easy to unclip-it and make it jump to my hand. Sometimes I loop the lanyard around the belt, that's secure and discrete enough for me.

Goodness, I thought quite a lot more people carried knives with clips in rear pockets. My Endura fits cozily next to my wallet, and comes out quite easily- thumb in the pocket, fingers on the clip, pull up. And even more importantly, doesn't poke or squish or slide when squatting, like mine sometimes do when clipped in front pockets.

I am personally NOT comfy with having a folder in my back pocket, I think it would be easier to loose it that way!!

I am going to get a leather sheath for my large Sebenza, as another option.

Anyone else do that?

I'm with you on that one too Theknifecollector, i can imagine it dis-appearing after Xmas shopping and wind up in the media the next day, Used during some terribly heinous crime, then it would be the "I didn't do it dance" with family and friends. Further encouraging bans on all sharpend edges in our society.
Couple weeks ago i seen a larger fella with a really nice kinda western styled custom folder clipped to the outside of his belt, this again is not for me.

A sheath, hmm, belt type or in pocket type?

Wonder how well WH's "in pocket" clip sheaths work, i would think this would almost promote loss aswell, giving it a medium to be squeezed out of, this is speculation as i do not know anyone with this style.

I am backing myself into a corner with a, tethered lanyard type of rig more an more now. If there was some type of styling connector to accomadate that, it may work for me, i am hoping some peeps with rigs like this speak out to provide more ideas.

Peace

Edited usuall typo's

The only problem I've ever had with a clip is on a Sebenza. It somehow caught my car seat and left a nice two inch gash in the leather.

I carry mine as pictured by AA89GTA. I have gotten clips caught on seat belts, overalls, tarps and so far I've been lucky. I've had them hit the ground but havent lost one.I once bent the clip on a Buck Odyssey 40 deg out from the knife. Unscrewed it , put it in a vise and fixed it.
I just try to be carefull so stuff doesnt get caught.Esav is right about keeping the clips tight. I've also had knives fall from my overall bib pocket.

I remove the pocket clip and just drop it into my right front pocket.

Pocket clips are evil!

What the hell?...You are having a problem with carrying a (small knife) IWB??? I carry my Glock 10mm model 20 IWB (in a "plastic" holster), and I have no problems with that, (and if you don't know, the Glock model 20 is as thick as a 2X4 piece of lumber.:D.).

IWB is a very secure way to carry a knife.

The first thing that I did to my Mini-Grip was to remove the clip. I just carry it like a pocket knife with no problems.

My Grip (Regualr Size) I keep the clip on and clip in the right front pocket back where it meets the side seem. Any knives that I have that are the Mine Grip size; I generally remove the clips as I don't like the look.

I carry my Spyderco Dragonfly in my jeans watchpocket (right side) and bigger folders clipped outside of my left pocket. Keys are in the right pocket. It's just too uncomfortable for me to have a big folder clipped inside of the pocket on tight jeans. I haven't lost any folder carrying it clipped outside of my pocket.

Then there is always the situation where you are leaning over getting stuff out of the back of your pick-up, and the clip scrapes along the outside of the bed as you are working...... nice.

I can tell you I have never lost a knife while clipped. It's pretty bomber when it's clipped to a front jeans pocket, but not as solid feeling when clipped to slacks (especially the ones with pocket openings along the seam).

I usually don't carry this way (clipped), and this is why.

1) I don't think it is appropriate in my workplace to have the knife visible.

2) The clip can snag and scratch things (possibly popping off).

One important note is that it is really easy to have an unclipped knife fall out of slack pockets (as opposed to jeans) after sitting down. If you wear slacks, this point can be proved by how many times you've found your knife on your car seat if you haven't already lost it somewhere else.

I prevent knife loss without using the clip by always putting my knife in the bottom of my front pocket with my wallet on top of it to act as a retainer.

For a knife with a clip I usually carry it clipped near the seam in my right-hand pocket. Sadly, this only works well with pants that have more of an angled slash-cut pocket like Dockers or Haggars. More straight-cut pockets such as those found in most blue jeans are terrible. The knife rides too high and each time I sit down it pushes it half-way out of the pocket. In jeans I just carry the knife at the bottom of my pocket and don't bother with the clip.

That has its problems too. I can't tell you how many smooth handled slim knives - some slim SAKs, stainless slim knives like Kershaw Leeks, etc. - I've lost because they want to slide out of the pocket depending on my position. (My wife bought me 3 SAKs that I kept losing this way before she finally bought me one along with a small nylon Leatherman sheath to carry it in!) This usually occurs if I'm carrying them loose in the Dockers, etc, some of which have angled pockets. If I'm wearing jeans I carry something with a textured handle - zytel or something. And I check my pockets regularly. There's no one easy solution. :(

I carry my Spyderco Cricket IWB, with the belt covers up the clip, too. I found this method is comfortable for carrying bigger folders, too, instead of clipping them in the pocket.

Lmao
Guess you could shoplift a watermelon then huh :D

A powder weapon, would sit across an behind my my buckle area an would feel ok, a instrument similiar to a fat popsicle stick is a bit different however for me.Or even in the small of the back.

And when i was working on vehicles, i think the handgun would be uncomfortable too lol, maybe just me, but my chevy buckle puts enough dents in cars as it is now.

Well, i am still looking for the ideal setup,an i willfind it,eventually lol.
