there seem to be alot of people on this board that like neck knives for wilderness use because of the convenience etc, and so when i finally got up the courage to scrap my first attempt at a sheath and make a new one for my pocket fixed blade i decided to try a sheath that i could wear around my neck.

i ended up using deerskin that i got in a trade on another unrelated forum with a wood liner that i carved from some dried wood i had laying around my back yard (bush)craft corner.

i ended up with this:

BUT the real point of this topic was to ask how you prefer to carry your neck knife, at what height, hanging from the belt on a thong, tucked into the hatband, etc. pics always welcome!
just to get things started, here is a pic of how i like to wear mine;
right between the pectorals so that it doesn't show if i tuck it under my shirt to wear around town, and it doesn't hit my lap when i sit down etc. as an aside, the knife in sheath is about seven inches long.

Good job on the sheath.

Mine gets carried at the height you show in your pic, except my knife is worn handle down.

mine hang just at the level of the sternum. I never really thought of it before but they all seam to be at the same hight.

usually sternum hieght. handle down..but lately I've been carrying my fallkniven ( a little heavy for a necker) on paracord diagnoll from my right shoulder across my chest, so the knife rests handle down beneath my left armpit. (sort of like a bandoleer/shoulder holster) it's not fancy but it places the knife at a good height it is unaffected if I'm sitting in a kayak, with a flannel on it doesn't appear that I have a knife (for the sheeple) and if worse come s to worse I can wear the sheath on my belt and I have some extra cord. Good luck

The only neck knife I carry is a A G Russell Woods Walker,
Handle down in a Kydex sheath, breakaway chain.
When I don't want it around my neck I just stick it in a pocket

I'm using a couple different ways:
*Chain with silicone aquarium air tubing to make it more comfortable. The tubing can double as a straw for getting water from cracks and seeps.

*Paracord with an inch or so gutted on each end, or completly gutted, lightly flame the ends and slip one end inside the other. Take a couple stiches through to form a break-way. Lightly melting the ends together is another option.

Other than that, handle down in the factory sheath:
*Becker Necker
*AG Russell Woodswalker (kydex sheath)
*Buck Hartsook

very nice set up siguy, very crafty of you! I'm a newbie to neck knives but I do like a break away chain in case it gets caught on something.

Becker Necker, handle up, hanging a little past my sternum. I gutted the paracord, slipped about 2 inches of ball chain in each end, and then melted the paracord around the chain to give me a break away point.

I've found the chain to be fine.

Kydex upside down with paracord. Length is easy- as my head is 130th percentile for adult males I just make sure I can get the rope around my head and - VOILA- the handle usually ends about 2-3" above my belly button

I wear my Spyderco native upsidedown in a concealex rig. The largest knife I have worn around my neck is my RAT 3. Not too bad, but after a while I always revert back to pocket carry. I like gutting the paracord and stringing a ball chain through it. I have been doing this for years with my dog tags because the chain would always catch the little hairs on my neck. I like the neck carry option for times when I wear shorts with no pockets or belts to attach a sheath too. Also they are handy a back up knife under my tack vest. I find them a little inconvenient for edc utility use though.
