How do you carry your everyday, alwasy on you survival kit and or first aid kit? I've been looking at the capsule from TAD gear :http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme gear/life_capsule_beta.htm But it just doesn't seem big enough and I don't really want to buy two of them (at that price anyway). Does anyone know of any slighly larger capsules or other good containers that are easy to EDC?

I EDC two AMK kits that I've customized. For first aid I carry the Pocket Medic. For survival I carry Doug Ritter's PSP.

Both started out in small plastic pouches, but I've transferred them to surplus sewing kit pouches. These are the kind that can be rolled up and tied shut.

I find theses pouches conform to my pockets better and don't wear out as fast as the plastic pouches. I've had to waterproof or package some things, using smaller ziploc bags.

I use the bag from a mini personal med kit, then have my survival kit sealed inside a ziploc that's inside of the bag. For EDC, I tossed a lot of the stuff from the mini kit into my car and home kits, keeping only essentials, then added the rest of my EDC items. The bag takes abrasion well, and the ziploc keeps the contents dry. The whole package fits easily into a pocket.

Cheers,
Rob

I distribute my survival stuff throughout my pockets. My problem with an 'all-in-one' kit is that it can be lost all at once...

I started carrying my EDC survival kit in my new mission wallet, I carry a Swiss Army Farmer, a Fisher Space Pen, A Swiss Army FireSteel, A small LED flashlight, and some paracord.

I think that if you understand that the Life Capsule was designed to supliment(sp) your EDC gear, i.e. knife, flashlight, ect. it makes sense...

Here is a link to a post that shows the contents of mine:

Your biggest kit for survival is your brain, fill it with as much as you can.

But what if you lose your pants? Some young thing steals them while your sleeping... :p

Hehe, if you're in a survival situation and got time for a SYT, you deserve whatcha git for goin to sleep! Sleep would be the last thing on my mind. :D

Oops, forgot my EDC. It rides on my belt, keychain and in my pockets. Low bulk, lite weight and efficient for close to home use, as well as adding to my travel kits.

On my belt I carry a cell phone, an old knife pouch with a German Utility knife w/BSA hotspark attached, a compass match capsule full of quartered spark-lite tinder, a few hooks, shot weights and some line.

On my keyring is an LED light, P38, whistle and carabiner. In my rear pocket I carry a starflash mirror in a small business card wallet along with ID and emergency numbers. A pair of leather gloves are in my other rear pocket.

In whatever jacket I wear this time of year I have a small plastic dropper bottle of bleach and a 1 gallon freezer grade ziploc bag, a 55gal. industrial grade drum liner, bandana, 15' of 550 and a small FAK.

I'd still have the neck carry! Though I'd have to lengthen it so it would dangle in front of my exposed 'parts'!

Your picture helps. I do have all my other larger gear scattered in different pockets and my mission wallet. I was looking at the TAD gear capsule for a spark-lite and other small things, but the pic on the TAD gear site made it look like the spark-lite would almost fill the large container by itself. It looks like you get plenty of additional items in there.

Thanks again for the picture.

Here is a pic looking into the capsule with everything in it...the two tinder quick tabs get compressed together and pressed on top, the action of screwing the cap on further squeezes them in....

My TAD life capsule took a trip through the washing machine a couple weeks ago, (oops.) and the contents were undamaged.... :)

I'm with numberthree (well, not really in his pants/pockets :D )...on my person, I distrubute some items...my small work pack has a more "formal" kit.

Since I get to where BDU's to work, I get by with a little more (mostly knives  ) The rigger's belt really helps to hold everthing up...of course knives, multitool, a ferro-rod, diamond sharpener, credit card-sized dental floss dispenser, a few flashlights, small pocket brass compass, Zippo, Windmill lighter, a small length of 550 cord...doesn't look too professional with bulging cargo pockets, so those don't have much.

That little TAD capsule would be a good addition to cover some of the items like tinder a match or two, spare cash, needles, etc.

Another great picture! Thanks. That pretty much seals the deal. I think mine will be set up almost identical to what you have there. I'm still planning to scatter other items in various pockets, but this will be great for all the small stuff. Pretty impressive that the contents can surrive a trip through the washing machine!

Those little things are pretty neat looking , sort of costly for what you get IMHO but still neat.

A little trick I use to make a waterproof capsule is to cut off the bulb end of an old AA size Mini-Mag flaslight to about 4" overall length. I work in a machine shop, so I had one of my guys machine a teflon cap for the cutoff end, with a press fit, and for extra security, I used epoxy glue. I let it soak overnight, and had no moisture in it in the morning. A cheap alternative, it even has a loop on the other end cap.

I ordered the life capsule from TAD Gear this morning and got an email back a little later saying that it had sold out yesterday!

Alright, who did it??? It had to be a BladeForums member... :D

Anyway, they said they are working on a new design, but didn't have any time frames yet.

Since it may be a while before they have a new design ready, I might have to try that with one of my old Mini-Mags. I've even been looking at a couple of fat metal pens I have laying around the office, trying to figure out if I could gut one of them and make some kind of small capsule...

I'm also think of hitting the hardware store to see if I can find anything in the plumbing/pvc aisle that might work.
