How do you carry your Rat-7?

Wondering what mods you guys have done if any to the factory supplied sheath. Do you carry on belt, shoulder harness, or only strapped to your pack. Also, has anyone done anything to stop the slightly loose rattling noise that the knife makles in the sheath when walking?

Thanks

I carry mine strapped vertically on a daypack or horizontally across the top of a Maxpedition versipack (attached via ALICE clips).

Mine doesn't rattle much so I haven't worried, but I think some here have heated it (either remove and put in hot water, or leave it in and use a blow dryer) and then squeezed it around the knife for a tighter fit.

Always carry your primary knife on your belt. If for some reason you have to ditch your pack (in water to prevent drowning or dropping it to distract a bear) you will still have it.

I keep mine on my pack or belt. Zman is right though, you should keep it on person in case you have to ditch the bag.
As for the rattle, You take the insert out and heat it up in boiling water. Then you put the blade in and then sqeeze it tighter. Just don't let the insert set in the water for to long.

On my daypack.

Fallkniven A1 is on my belt along with a Leatherman Surge in my pocket/belt.

I agree that you shouldn't have your only knife on your pack, but I usually have a RAT3 or Bravo1 on my belt and the RAT7 or Busse SFNO on the pack.

I carry my RAT-7 a couple of different ways. If I'm wearing a pack with a waistbelt, but I want the RAT to stay with me, I'll wear it on my pants belt with the help of a drop-leg extender.

You thread it thru your sheath and onto your belt. It drops the knife low enough so it doesn't interfere with the pack's waistbelt.

Lately, I've been attaching the RAT's sheath horizontally along the bottom of a lumbar pack I have been carrying. I used cable ties to attache it to the available loops. I don't have any pictures of that setup as yet.

Absolutely agree, and this is one reason whe the 7+ inch bladed knives are not necessarily my knife of choice anymore. First, they're just a little to big to carry comfortably on the belt (for me, anyways). Second, if it's too big to put on the belt, than why not add a few more inches for more chopping power if it's going to be strapped to your pack? So, I have ~5" fixed blade on my belt and a large 9-10" chopper in my pack.

Now, if you do plan to carry you 7" knife on the belt, get a good sub-belt (drop) sheath for it that won't interfer with your backpack's waistbelt (if you have one). Another option if you don't use a waistbelt for your pack is a good cross-draw set up...I've found it pretty comfortable even when scrambling and it's not too difficult to draw with either hand.

Where can you get one of those?

I wear it in on a drop leg tactical harness unless I'm in a suit, then I wear it in a rig in the middle of my back ala The Highlander. It's a great knife, even though people stare at me when I wear it. You never know when you'll need a 7" knife.
