How do you carry your Wallet ?

I'm making a new type of Wallet , I've never been happy or satisfied with all of my store bought Wallets , so I decided to make my own .

It has got me wondering how other people carry their Wallets ( which pocket ) , how big are they , do they have a fastener , do they have a coin pocket , can you sit comfortably with them in your pocket ?

Any thoughts , pictures , opinions would be appreciated .

This would be better is gadgets and gear.

I carry a Saddleback Leather front pocket ID wallet in my front left pocket, along with a field notes booklet, cash, and a fisher bullet space pen.

I carry a plain wallet that folds in half. I don't carry a lot of money but I do have a few credit cards, gas cards, etc., and usually a good number of business cards and receipts so my wallet ends up fairly thick.

I carry the wallet in my rear jeans pocket. I usually don't worry about it and usually don't feel it.

It goes ok here because there is a leather worker asking advice about a future project, it fits in the "and such" category very nicely. :D

Thanks Dwayne.

The reason I have asked these questions is to gather design ideas and although the Gear and Gadgets suggestion has merit I thought that it would be interesting to quiz the guys here because it is inhabited by people who make and design their own leather items .
I have a couple of designs that I'm working on , but so far carrying comfort which I consider a major component in all my work is proving difficult .
I carry my wallet in my front right pocket , I've never been happy sitting on a wallet when carried in a back pocket .
How much stuff do you guys carry in your wallets , cards - cash etc , how big are they ?

I carry mine in my front right pocket as well. I like to keep it as simple as I can.
I probably carry about 12-15 cards (business, debit, credit, etc.) at one time and have some cash in the money clip.
Mine has a magnetic clip that can be nice at times, but it limits the amount I can hold (which isn't always a bad thing haha).
As far as size, it's a pretty basic card holder style. So about 3"x2"?and is about a half inch thick.
Hope this helps! Good luck with the designing. I'm in the market for a new one haha

I'm carrying a h-d small tri fold wallet on a chain in the right hand back pocket. no coin pocket, i carry about 5 cards, id, drivers license and cash in it. the coins go in the front pocket and i empty the change into a jar each day.
i sit on it all day and on 4 hour drives no problem.
only problem would be that the cards are kinda sharp it seems and scraping at the inner leather a bit.

Back left pocket with chain to belt. Keeps my right side free from chain for clean draw of handgun or Emerson waved tanto folder.

Thanks Dwayne.

Back right pocket, but yeah it does annoy me and I'm constantly breaking cards. I know people carry cell phones and knives in the back pockets though. Can't imagine doing that myself. Would put it up front if I didn't have a buttload of stuff there already. As for things: couple cards, driver's license, 10-20 bills, hunting/fishing license, range membership card, appt cards, few receipts, vehicle insurance card, boat registration, and probably a couple other things.

Thanks Dwayne.

I agree, both sections will give solid answers.

Typically, with my front pocket wallet, I have four cards in the two slots opposite of the ID slots, then carry my ID, some thin paper cards, two business cards, a my fishing license. My entire wallet is less than 3/8" thick. I carry cash in another pocket, separate from my wallet. Whenever I need cash, I don't have to expose what is in my wallet. I can also spread out everything in my pockets for more comfort.

I have two herniated discs in my back and sit at a desk for 12 hours a day. Having something under my butt cheek is not something I want.

I carry too much, but it's only too much because it's in my back/right pocket.

I want to make wallets too, but I'll start out by buying pre-made interiors.

My current wallet is easily my favorite ever. I've had it for over 4 years and it's cobra skin. Some of the scales have fallen away over time, but it's held up remarkably well considering it's been through the wash several times (whoops!).

It's a pretty standard wallet with two money pockets, card slots, a key holder etc. I don't like those plastic picture holders in my wallets.

As much as I love the wallet (found it at one of those curio shops in San Francisco next to the shrunken heads) it's pretty obvious that I need a new one.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I feel ya man. Same boat.

I only move my wallet up to my front pocket when I'm in a sketchy, or really busy place, like at the county fair.

In simpler times I used to carry my ID and a couple of credit cards in a business card case. Nowadays, I need a double window case for security passes, one of which is a thick key card, more credit cards, buyers club and transit pass, etc. Lately I've been using a Big Skinny brand wallet that does make it a bit thinner. Carry it in my back pocket. I carry cash in my right front pocket, not my wallet, except for an emergency C-note hidden in one of the slots.

I carry a leather CardCase wallet When folded it's about 4" wide and 3" tall when folded. It's basically a magnetic money clip but one side has 3 card slots for my license, debit card, insurance card, etc. and the other side has a magnet in it. I fold my cash in half, put it between the two halves, then let the magnet close it up and hold it shut. Carry it in my left front pocket with my change, left front pocket carries my knife of choice for that day.

Works great but they are hard to find. If you decide to make something like this, be sure to let me know as I'll buy a couple so I know I'll be good for a while. They seem to last about 4 years, then the stitching starts to give out along the seams.

I'm looking for Chaylor Fenneli interiors but I cannot seem to find a vendor outside of Springfield Leather. I would purchase from Springfield, but I'm not seeing the one I want.

If anyone knows where to find them I'd appreciate a shout out. I believe it's an Australian company (*cough* Ken *cough*). :)

I must own up and admit I didn't know you could buy wallet interiors .
If there is anything I can get over here , or hunt out and post your way just say the word , let me know what you want and I'll do my best .

Ken

PS - nice wallet in the pics , I've got a couple of ideas that are kind of " Out There " and if I can overcome swerve my way through a few issues then I'll " Show and Tell' :)

The problem is that they don't seem to have a website at all. I know they make one that I liked the look of, but I cannot find a pic.

I'll give Kevin at SLC a call and see if I'm imagining things.

Thanks for the kind offer my friend. I'll keep that feather in my cap if things don't shake out.

Another option is the pdf from Ian Atkinson. He sells the plans for, I think, three of his wallet styles, but I don't believe the patterns are necessarily what I want.

My favorite thing about your work is the level of creativity. I know you'll be coming up with something very interesting. :)

I also carry all of the above. The wallet is normally in the right front pocket. Been designing a wallet in my head for a few years now as I am working in Law Enforcement and also carry a badge. This tends to make the wallet even more bulky.

Back in my younger days I spent quite a bit of time horseback, and I didn't like sitting on a wallet fat or otherwise. About 20 years ago now I designed a special little "shirt pocket" wallet that fit my needs horseback exactly. I carry it in my right shirt pocket and it contains Driver license, Concealed carry permit, vehicle insurance card, a credit card or two, a supply of my business card and folding currency. As you see it has a money clip and four individual pockets for all the other crap. I originally made it to satisfy my own need, but as you would guess, other horsemen and just plain ordinary "normal" folks had to have one too. I haven't kept any kind of count, but I'd guess I've sold about 200 of them over the years. The example shown below is about 10 years old and is in my pocket right now.

Edit: Someone is bound to ask. Laid out flat it measures 2 7/8" wide by 9" long and the pockets will all hold a standard credit card or similar.

No surprise, but that's very clever. I really like how the bills are secured.

As for wallets in general, I've looked at a couple of pdf packs that have designs for multiple wallets each. Only problem is that they all (or most) seem to be for space saving/slim style wallets. Myself, I prefer a full size, full function wallet. I think I mentioned that the plastic photo carriers and windows are not my cup of tea, but I carry a lot of stuff and need the space.

Beautiful wallet .

Could you show a bigger- better pic of the money clip and how it is attached to the body of the wallet ?
Its funny , but I have been experimenting with shirt pocket carry myself this last week and then you show this excellent shirt pocket wallet . Shirt pocket carry really does have a lot in its favour , but it does require a very minimal and compact wallet , that money clip idea could be exactly what I'm looking for .
