How do you close your custom slippie?

I use my teef to close my slipjoints :D (but I dont recommend that for ordinary men)

I will close them slowly against the heel of my hand (way my dad did it, what can I say) until it gets by the half stop then I love hearing it snap closed. Steven

I ease them open and closed myself. It's what I was taught by my dad and it's stuck for 50 years.

Thanks for the responses guys!

On the knives I have I'm not really worried about the blades hitting the backspring when snapped shut. They all have enough clearance to not be a problem.

I was concerned about the pivots and bushings. Has anyone experienced problems with blade wobble or alignment issues appearing after some real world use (not abuse)?

Put the back of the blade aginst your leg, get it to the half stop and let it fall, if it can't take that, well it's a display queen. What if you just cut something in two and one hand is full and you need to put your knife back in your pocket? However, a mint vintage knife is a whole different story.

Don't have a custom yet but I do have a couple of vintage knives with half stops and strong springs and I just close them with palm or thigh to the half stop and then let them snap close. If it wasn't meant to be done that way they should've put 1/8 stops in it. :)

I found out long ago that if I never open them-

1. I never have to sharpen them

2. I never have to close them

This has saved me countless hours of sharpening time and the only stress on them is the friction on the bolsters and scales from the lint inside my pocket.
