How do you "deploy"?

Are you mindful of those around you when you open your knife or do you just "let it rip"? I'm sure that most knife-carrying folks are considerate in the way they deploy their knives. I also suspect that many of us will heedlessly snap a knife open, thinking that it's "their problem" if someone is bothered by what they see. It is our right to carry after all, they might say.

How sensitive should we be? How do you "deploy"?

if someone is around or i'm letting someone use it i opt for 2 handed opening or a slow one hand. but if im by myself i let that shit fly

With the care and consideration of those around me at the time. When at home, I rather like to hear the 'snap' of a blade locking up. When I am out, an Axis Lock allows me to lock up in silence.

this post made me lol.

i try to opener knives slowly and deliberately in public, unless i'm with friends who i like to scare on purpose :D

I open with alacrity when alone. If in unfamiliar surroundings I open more discretely.

It depends a lot on where I am. I work at a law firm, so it's iffy depending on what specific people are around. I also instruct with local high school bands, so around the students, it's rare that I will even take a knife out of my pocket, especially since I'm pretty sure I'm not even supposed to have one on school grounds.

I mostly use a Buck Hartsook when in public, if I need a Voyager, I open it slowly one-handed. Otherwise, fast one-handed opening or a kinetic snap.

Right thumb nail into the nail nick of my medium Case Trapper and pull until fully "deployed".
No problem.

When among people that are "cool" I tend to use the drop.

When there is a question as to the reaction I may get I use a stealth deployment where by everything is (mostly) concealed by my hand except for the last inch of the blade that extends past my thumb. The blade is deployed as I move my hand from the pocket to the "work" are in a fluid movement that does not draw attention. Most people have no idea that I am carrying something much larger than a small folder.

Thats one nice thing about a stockman, whittler, etc type knife, when around the sheeple just open the small blade, i usually also pinch most of the blade so it appears even smaller.

If I need to cut something and there are a lot of strangers present I deploy a small slip joint use it and return it to my pocket.

I "deploy" my blades legally. Meaning however I feel like it. I don't get all rowdy but I open, use and return my blades like I'm on a mission and doing nothing wrong. It sets a good example that regardless of the knife sights or sounds, it's just a tool. No walking on egg shells necessary yet in Kentucky.

I really don't think about it. Living where I do, knowing the people I do, there's little chance of scaring anybody anyway.

I am mindful of my circumstances, and will use a SAK rather than a larger folder when appropriate.

However, I have no qualms about - and in fact relish - the exercise of my God given right to own, carry and use whatever dang nab blade pleases me. I don't flaunt it unnecessarily, but on the other hand, no fat, divorced, unhappy woman - who wants everyone else to be unhappy too - is going to dictate my choice of fine, EDC cutlery. :)

I am usually discrete about opening my knives when 'people' are around. As with anything I do in public or in front of people, I am considerate. Just the way I was raise I guess. So I open my knives close to me whether it is a slow open or a quick flick of the thumb. When I'm alone or with people I know won't freak out, then is is whatever way is needed but habit usually has me opening close and controlled.

My buddy doesn't care at all about what image he portrays and I think he might actually want people to think he is some bad ass black ops agent so he holds his knife out there where everyone can see and lets it rip with exaggerated motions. So corny and embarrassing.

I always carry at least 2 knives, and when in the presence of sheeple, tend to use the smallest one possible. Most people don`t feel threatened by a knife less than 2 inches long. While most of us knife knuts enjoy a good full-on, AO deployment, it tends to freak out non-enthusiasts....
